Dreamer. Seeker. Free spirit. At least that's how I see myself. After years of being tied down by the burdens of debt and employment necessary to pay off that debt, I am finally free to be the person I want to be. This channel will feature my adventures and discoveries as I travel the United States. Along the way, in addition to highlighting the places I go, I hope to introduce you to some fascinating people that I meet.
I will also be posting on my Facebook page so follow me there. As I travel and collect photographs of this great country I will be posting on Instagram as well.
my controller's display is not working. and the relay is permanently ON. this happened after the temperature exceeded the limit( above 110degrees). Is there any hard reset for this unit?
Not that I'm familiar with. I haven't used this set up for many months now. I ended up purchasing a Norcold chest type 12 volt refrigerator/freezer, which I've been very happy with. It was pricey though, about $600 US.
Hello from Germany, I have also a thermoelectric cooler. And also a blue and a red point on the connecter. That does not mean + an -. It means cooling process or heating process. If you turn the red color to the top, then your box is heating. If you turn the blue point to the top, then your box is cooling. Nice greetings.
That is such a great set up! We aren't at the point of solar just yet, but this is definitely a set up worth considering, and so nifty. Safe travels, Thalia & John, South African Travel Vloggers
I'll be converting my mazda5 within the month! Check out my channel for updates. Also thanks for your perspective! I already have a rough plan but I think I will break my platform into 2 pieces now cuz I like your set up a lot! Thanks
I'm considering doing the same but I was curious... Have you found it actually does shut off for any duration or is it shutting off then two minutes later turning back on and running for half an hour, then shutting off for two minutes, turning back on... You know what I mean? Another words is it actually worth installing... or just letting it run? I realize that's really related to how good the insulation is on the cooler in the end. But I wanted to hear your findings now that you've installed it... and hopefully put it to use. TIA.
Good question. I think it's definitely worth it from an energy savings standpoint. The biggest factors in determining how much it will run is the ambient temperature and whether or not you try to add additional insulation. So in cooler weather, the "off" period was definitely longer. Hope this helps!
The Drifting Lens - Thanks for the response. I lucked out and found a little 6 pk cooler and even more so with a find of a 40 year old Koolatron 46qt, with optional thermostat I might add 😉 at the thrift store. Both surprised me with how well they work. The 46 qt at 90F holds solid at 34.1F. I was really surprised. However the thermostat it has in it is not a on/off. Nor specific temp. It's like a frig, you guess at it. And how it works is it sets the temp of the thermal electric cooler... it's runs continuously at that desired "coolness". Obviously I want to update it. Add a true temp probe read out thermostat like you have. And add a ball bearing pancake fan as opposed to the older style fan it came with. Another thing I'm considering is connecting the fan in a way it continues to run even after temp is reached to cool the external heat sink for a bit. That way there's less heat transfer back to the inside once it shuts down. I don't know for sure if that'll help, but it sounds good when I say it out loud. 😁 I'm sure more thought needs to be put into that side of things, but that's my thought pattern at the moment. The 6pk one... just a tad too small. Though it's nice next to the coffee maker to hold creamer. Saves opening the main fridge. Though I'm not sure if I'm being green or just making my foot print bigger. Anyway... again thanks. I'm glad you found it worth doing. Cheers...
Thank you TDL. You really did a fine job of making the installation simple to understand. And including the FDA refrigeration information and the Celsius conversion saved me a ton of effort. All around perfect job my friend. You just got a new subscriber. I hope you enjoyed your trip to Florida. Keep up the good work. David
Thanks, nice video. You are 5'8" so did you have any extra room btwn head and hatch door and btwn feet and back of front seats? Or do you have a measurement of bed length for how tall a person could be and still lay out straight? Are you still using as camper or do you take out and put seats back in when not camping? The Caravan with stow and go is nice. Newer ones all have the 3.6 v6 which is a good engine but they had some problems for 2012 (maybe some 2013) where they extended warranty to 150K or 10 years (has timing chain as Mazda5 also does).
I would say that I person could probably be up to 5'10" and still fit between the hatch and the back of the seat. I've actually sold this 5 and went with a 2001 Dodge Ram van. That added more room and versatility, with added storage and a sink, but I spent a lot of money getting it road worthy. I somewhat regret making that change.
Sorry for the delay. It's a Coleman, and I spent about $70 on it. Since then I have upgraded to a Norcold 12v refrigerator/freezer. It's much more efficient and keeps food safely cold, even in warmer temps. But it's pricey! About $600 for the base model.
If you're not in a hurry, you can order components like these direct from China for next to nothing (about 1/10th the price in this case). $1.68 no tax and free shipping. However.... it will take 2-4 weeks as it literally ships from China. www.aliexpress.com/item/W1209-DC-12V-Digital-Cooling-Heating-Temp-Thermostat-Thermometer-Temperature-Control-On-Off-Switch-50-110C/32711281021.html
For anyone that didn't realize, the Red H and Blue C are for hot/cold. Several modes allow you to inverse the polarity to the cooler to turn it into a heater. Seems this cooler only allows the plug to go in one way, but htat plug is most likely the same plug for multiple different models of coolers. The reversible ones have a mark on one side of the socket and whichever color dot is by the mark determines if it will run Hot or Cold.
Hi if you download a VPN, I used Super VPN for my android via google play it prevents a wifi hotspots restrictions and I assume you can upload your videos. Hope that helps. I guess Apple store have a similar app if you are an iPhone user?
+tinabeane That's correct! I wanted the extra room. Now I have enough space to stretch out, prepare a meal in the van, edit photos and videos, and have a lot more storage. The downside is my gas mileage was cut in half and I'll be more prone to mechanical problems.
