reese looks interested and curious but that look makes me wonder when he sniffs it and thinks to himself and says is this the kibble or the bits or is this just puppy chow jk, he looks like a happy dog that just loves the world. awesome video
I'm sure you are aware....but make sure that heat lamp is super, super well secured. Maybe a strong clamp holding tight on the clip on clamp. Been on a few coop and barn fires due to those. No Reese in this video? She's a star :~)
good tip...I have this one pretty tight.. it is screwed into the side of the wash basin...and that is why the basin is metal and not a cardboard box or anything plastic...I can def. see how someone can burn a house down this way. last night the chicks graduated from the lamp. they don't want it as much so I turned it off and they did just fine. next week it should be in the upper 80s so I can move them into the new coop I built...will show that in next video. :) for those getting g new chicks...be careful of that lamp, it can and will burn your house down!
I love the chicken idea...they are easy to care. I got the idea from a recent time spent bin key west. they have these same chickens running over the whole island!
That's cool. We went to Hawaii a few years ago. On the Island of Kawaii there are chickens everywhere. Weird thing; we saw a chicken pecking at a drumstick bone by the resort dumpster.
+capi1lope oh yeah!!! they will eat cooked chicken...gross...there is one guy on RU-vid that I follow who puts discarded chicken scraps from the dinner table together for his chickens...milk and chicken wings included...they are scavenger birds. I won't do that because I want them to eat the bugs in the yard.
lol! these chickens not for eating! Dmitri passed away...very sad about it still. I buried him and planted a snowball bush over him...the roaring is the huntress of the house, my girl cat. she's banned from the office until the chicks are big enough for the coop outside. :)
so very sorry to hear of your Dmitri loss.. and i too was impressed at how gentle Reese is with the chicks.. Sophie the Huntress, i presume, would probably not be so loving.. are they all female chicks, or do you have any roosters in the mix? i'm assuming you'll be able to harvest the hen's freshly laid eggs? i like your little birds.. so have you named them yet?
I used to do dead on siren imitations, out of practice now, but when we had two dogs I'd rock the siren with them and we'd have a good howl! Sure the neighbors thought we were nuts.
