That will help with side to side tension but will introduce up down bobbing if you'd want to equalise that you need to decrease spoke tension on the opposite side of the rim but then you have 3 spokes so you'd have to reduce tension appropriately. Also with disc brakes be careful about brakes because you have unequal tension in the direction of braking/accelerating
I have been following Joe barr for a while. This lad is my inspiration. I will hopefully someday complete Raam someday and I will think of him when I do. I am 50 got out of the saddle for 2 years after 200 and 300 mile rides. I am an Irish American and you never beat the Irish..I will return thank you Joe barr slante Mhaith 🍀
@@TeamJoeBarr Thanks Joe, my campag record 2011-2014 groupset FD is clamp-on. The only k-edge chain catchers ive seen are braze-on. Would i need to put on an additional braze on FD clamp for it to work? please advise Many Thanks Neil
@@TeamJoeBarr used to work in Derrylin, County Fermanagh for 18 months and used to tour the place back to belfast airport each Friday to fly home to england. Love it, must go back with the bike.
What this man has done at 60 inspires me at 41 to train harder and get better, that the performance and improvement I want *is* out there if I work for it. That effort, that race, that result, your achievement - astonishing. Keep it up Joe, you’re an inspiration.
You HAVE to stay under 200w in RAAM. Going over that you just going to pay for it with excess fatigue metabolites in such a long race. Looks like his gear ratios are not suited for the proper high cadence. @6:49 he has no power meter on his bike even. He is just pacing by feel and by the look of how dehydrated and flushed his face looks he is racing like he is in a 100mile road race hehe. He would CRUSH it if he was doing my protocols. Look how good I got Abdullah. He was not even owning cycling shorts or a proper helmet when I met him. He was riding a bike with no water bottle now holds the record for across Oz and USA in just a few short years.
Just watched this epic event Joe. Just fantastic ,your approach and the team you have really have your back. I'm one year older than you Joe and only compete in endurance rides in the UK ,I also play drums in a rock band , so how lucky are we to have been born at exactly the right time to push back barriers and show the young uns how to live life . All the best to you and " the missus" and all your amazing team. Always keep a tail wind Joe and roll them wheels forward.
Watched the video... Read the book. As a 50 year old who just got into cycling in 2019 (when I was 47) and recently having completed my 1st Audax... You Joe, are one of my absolute heroes. Thank you for everything you do & for the inspiration that instills .
Thanks David. How I overcome adversity on 2-wheels is just as applicable to how anyone overcomes adversity on 2-feet. They are such transferable life skills really....
Joe, what an amazing video. I was honored to ride beside you a couple minutes into Utah! Even when you were not having a great day, you took the time to give me, a rookie, such wisdom for what was ahead! Such a great human and incredible racer! Honored to have shared the road in 2019!!!!!!
Such an inspiration to this old fella, who sometimes thinks about his age and goes to a dark place. The mind says " nothing more to look forward to ". Joe then reminds me that life isn't over till it's done.
Just finished watching 9/21/22, 7pm USA East Coast time. Joe, your an incredible inspiration. I am planning my first 24 hr. bike ride. East Islip to Montauk point and back x2. My grandfather was from Ireland, New Ross, Wexford. God Bless you & thank you for sharing.
I'm not finished watching this video yet and amazed not only by Joe's effort and toughness but also by the commitment and support of his wife. She is what you want in a lifelong partner. Chapeau!
Ah Chris, I'm a blessed man to have been given another chance to create this kind of partnership with Jill. We are definitely stronger together. Thanks for your comment. I couldn't go the distance without her.
I loved watching this level of toughness by a person that competes as much against himself as others. Some days your best may be not good enough to win. As long as it’s truly your best on that day you can be proud. You need these times to appreciate some more “successful” ones. Great job
Just watched this twice over and you have inspired me to get back out ASAP. I have just got back from the RAAM with team Blesma. Day one saw us end our first shift only to find out our sleeping bus had broke a fuel line after a blowout. Handed over to our second 4 man team and 10 min later we were down to 7 riders as our captain was airlifted to hospital after breaking 4 ribs and perforating his lung. An 8 man all amputee team doomed from the word go. Problem after Problem and 7 hours between pulls as opposed to 30 min due to ferrying people from motel to motel and 2 hours ride to meet up and take over the pull meant we knew we were going to get a DNF. Saying that we cracked on and bypassed the mountain ranges and crossed the line in Maryland. Cycling with one leg took its toll and I also crashed out but like my colleagues we just made the most out of it. I was on a low after getting back home but watching your video has inspired me to get back out once my fractured collar bone has healed. I have the greatest admiration for you and your team and it has made me realise nothing is impossible even at 63. God bless you and thanks for the uplift. Kind regards John
RAAM brings every obstacle and your team surmounted them all but it does take its toll. No doubt, time and reflection will bring wisdom...keep the bike moving forward.
I really enjoyed your video. Older age is like having an extra 10 mph headwind at all times. That just makes the accomplishment all the more impressive.
absolutely amazing joe i love my cycling to cork each june since 2020 i set off june 10th again from derry to cork and im hoping to be able to cycle back home im doing this one for foyle hospice charity you are something else joe
