Man . Victor is MUSIC . Just got my first bass about a month ago and been reading his book too. Playing has opened me up to a world I thought I was never a part of.
11:47 I seriously believe his mind started to split. Recognized where the down beat was without the percussion and somehow was able to trill and have fun without aid. Dude started ascending here... absolute talent
What you gotta love about Victa is that he listens so intently. See how he lays down a loop and then responds appropriately. He fits himself in with the music the same way you would in a conversation
I've seen victor live 3 times (a 4th next month) and it just never gets old. I even got to take a short class from him during a summer program at Berklee a while back, such an awesome dude and literally the greatest alive
Oh my goodness! How have I missed this all these years? Thank you..Thank you..Thank you... I remember Victor playing his Drumitar with Bela at a show in San Diego Years ago.
This the greatist 4 string bassist on planet earth. Hope you all know that talent. All 4 Wooten brothers that are left. Rudy passed. They are all amazing. I could watch Victor all day long. Such a prodigy that we will probably never see again in our lifetime. He needs no band. .He is it.
Victor's heart and soul based approach really shines. Soul is the inspiration and source of all exceptional music. He is incorporating melody, harmony, and rhythm simultaneously. Simply amazing.
The word incredible doesn't even give this performance justice. There is nothing like Victor Wooten. Never will be. You have just watched the greatest inventor of the the way an amazing jazz bass guitarist on planet earth should be if you have watched it all the way through. A little double effect there on stage here and there but holy wow. Cannot say that enough.
God has freely given me the tools and free will to choose how to use these gifts... some Like Victor accept this challenge in life and live to excel to a level that pleases their maker, Most, abuse it & waste it on negativity leading to destruction.
15:25 Check out how cleanly he switches from fretting with the pinky finger to the index finger. If you were just listening, you might not even realize it happened!
In the realm of musicality, there is no one like Vic in this era. The last time somebody like this was on the planet his name was Amadeus. Jaco was innovative in many ways and his landings after cosmic effect penetrated harmonic infusions were legendary, but Vic is without a doubt on another level. I was fortunate enough to see him in a small bar in Tucson, Arizona in his absolute prime. It was after a U of A football game and I just walked in off the street. If you did not get to FEEL that power coming from him during the 5 to 6 years he was in that groove (before his injury set in) video does not do it justice. Your heart literally took a beating and you cried, literally cried because there was nothing else to do. Grown-ass men crying, looking at each other and shaking heads in disbelief. This is not an exaggeration. We just put our heads on each other's chests and shoulders and joined in the heavenly embrace of what we were witnessing. I'll never forget it for as long as I live and it is THE primary reason I came back to music after about a five-year walkway. Bless you, Vic. I hope all is well with you. You were the nicest man in the world when we met. Over the years I can see that has not changed.
