Welcome everybody, In my channel you will find the most beautiful bass covers (imo) and some videos on the world of bass guitar... EVERY FRIDAY! Thanks for watching and appreciating. Gabriele L.
Lane Poor is purely the Californication tone, also is the SD wired in series and Lane Poor in parallel. SD sounds more driven and middy where Lane Poor is crisp and clear. My bass has SD SMB-4D and it also has similar, if not the same characteristics, I just cut the mids all the way off when I am playing with the bridge pickup at the humbucker setting, after that it gets some breathing space but even then it is a bit hot, not so easy to replicate the Californication tone that way.
Dude this is awesome, how did you get this? There are other isolated bass tracks of californication but they either sound lower quality or like they were messed with, this sounds very clean and exactly like the record. Do you have an isolated bass track and possibly the other instruments for otherside too?
WOAH, Holy String-2-Fret noise man!! Is that a recording artifact or an intentional part of your playing style/Bass setup?? ;) -BTW Thanks, I appreciate the A/B comparison it was informative (as far as it can be via YT w/your gear, your hands etc..) I recently damaged a Nordstrand MM5.2 Alnico pickup during repairs. So being a big fan of Flea’s I thought maybe I’d try a more aggressive, modern leaning Ceramic/Neodymium/Active pickup as a replacement but I don’t know.. 🤔
There is a lot of difference to the sounds. I like the lane poor the best in this comparison, as it does the Flea sound better. Though if the preamps are different, it could be that the internal trimpots are set different. I once owned a Modulus Flea with Aguilar OBP3 that sounded quite middy like the SD equipped bass. This apparently had to do with a pre-set that was built in that type preamp. I switched to the OPB-1 and the sound opened up with more brightness and depth.
Man I've owned quite a few of each and the SD definitely always surprises me. The LP can sound a little thin at times. The LP with Bart 9v 2 band in the 96/97 fleas is by far the best combo. Super aggressive and slightly overdriven, and very underated compared to the OBP-1
2:57 I cried in that part, it's like imagining what could have been with that woman you still love but who broke your heart into a thousand pieces, it's like imagining the heaven you'll never be able to get in.
Guessing the SD is run through an OBP-1 and the LP an OBP-3 based off the extra knob I'm seeing? I own two 08 funks, one with a SD and one with a LP, both OBP-1, and to be honest neither sound like these setups. They are much closer in tone than most people probably realize, SD did a great job reverse engineering the LP. LP is a little clearer and bright, but also a little thin at times. The LP sounds better with the Bart pre that came in the 96/97 fleas in my opinion (just sold one).
