I believe this match was from December 2001. Sanderson graduated in 2002 and this match was shown briefly in the ESPN documentary Hawkeye: Men of the Mat.

And B Saitiev always a sportsman-not a whiner-never dirty-I have certainly never watched-video- of anyone "better" John Smith-certainly great The somewhat earlier generation Russian-AR-TIEV?? or some such-a bit lighter-great but I distinctly remember seeing him Choke out a wrestler-then slap the guys face-to revive him?? Yeah he was a GREAT WRESTLER-but not the complete package wrestler sportsman human being like B Saitiev Yes he represents Dagestan or perhaps Chechnya now-and we-USA- are at odds-again-with Russia-but... well .. Sure hope we get a good terms with Russian again- We-USA- have our flaws-wars etc-but we do ROUTINELY and intentionally makes allies/friends with bitter enemies GB(2 wars) Germany 2 wars Japan 1 war USA- flawed-but we know which side our bread is butter on-despite our mis-steps-war is wasteful-evil We will get on good terms-someday-with Russia China Iran(all recent history allies) N Korea too-on better terms with India-never an enemy. B Saitiev best in world-best ever maybe-his brother Adam-Olympic champ too wow!

It's quite obvious that Karelin lost on purpose. The fact that the scumbag Kissinger attended this event gives away that big money was on stake and the match was fixed. Karelin took an offer he couldn't refuse. Losing this match 1:0 was probably what actually earned him his cozy position in Moscow. Back then the original Putin was still in power (the original was in bed with the Bushes). If you analyze this match knowing that Karelin knew he had to lose, then you will see all the "missed opportunities" where he could have easily scored points but didn't. Also, it is evident from his body language from the beginning that he wasn't very enthusiastic about this match.

Wow- B Saitiev was the most difficult wrestler to take down-PERIOD.Most difficult who ever lived. He routinely countered single legs-deep good shots by world class wrestlers-and SCORED on their shot. Slay-no fool-played it cagey-non of the energizer bunny type wrestling many of our-USA- wrestlers to win. He knew that a good shot-not IMMEDIATELY FINISHED- was death. His first shot-a double-he never actually went down fully to the mat-he sorta switched to a driving duck under and got the points-then 2 more. Saitiev is/was a wizard countering singles. If you left him a "leg to stand on" you were well and truly screwed. Hence the DOUBLE LEGS.Don't allow him his bread and butter super counter-which is impossible to describe other than you lost your takedown because of what he could do with his "off leg" you get taken down-frequently back exposed. Super flexible and obviously strong- B Saitiev might be the best wrestler ever-excluding John Smith-and maybe Jordan Burroughs. Slay and his coaches watched Saitiev closely-made a plan-it worked Of course it helped to be as strong as a horse-and a slick wrestler. WOW.
