I'm a Charleston local. Born and raised. I haven't been inside this mall in over 30 years. I've heard that it was dying. I remember visiting this place when it first opened when I was 15. I'd just gotten my driver's license. During the 80s, I would frequently come here. It was booming and bustling. It's days now, are obviously numbered. Very sad to see. Lots of memories there from my youth.
Dude I grew up in the apartments behind here. Walked up and around all the time. I miss that dollar movie theater and the arcade that was there. Last time I was up they had removed a ton of the golf course too
They dramatically changed the quality of k - mart in Australia , they used to sell rifles and ammo , when I was a kid , quality car stereo gear and auto stuff , not cheap Chinese crap , they also had good diners here, last one closed about 1995 . First k - mart opened in the Inner east suburbs, Melbourne, Vic , Australia , 1967 . Pretty sure they don't have the garden department anymore either . K- mart is open 24 / 7 , seven days a week.
There was a great toy store here when I was a kid, mid to late 1970s. Bought a ton of Star Wars action figures there! I’m talking the original Star Wars. Don’t remember the name of the store.
Nice video. I grew up in this mall. I remember Barrel of Fun, one of the arcades the mall had over the years. Also there was a Babbages back in the day as well as a few other video game stores. Lots of fond memories at this mall.
Wow thi red lobster looks exactly like a red lobster in nj… and that their problem.. they never upgraded after all these decades… their architecture, the interior design, etc…. They never evolved. It like stepping into a time capsule when you go to red lobster
I was at the mall last week and the food court was packed to capacity. All tables were occupied. I didn’t realize that all of the food court spaces are 100% leased with a new Mexican restaurant coming soon in the former Italian food space.
Stay tuned for upcoming news about Citadel Mall in probably mid-fall 2024 as plans begin to be revealed when the master plan moves through the City of Charleston design and permitting process. Expect some pretty significant news that is long overdue! 👍🏻
Awesome video! Even though Sears never relocated from their original 1981 space they did undertake a significant expansion and interior remodel in the 1990’s. Look at the exterior on the side with the Gemstone’s signage. To the left about 1/2 down you’ll notice that the brick slightly changes color. This is the addition. It added a fairly significant amount of square footage. 😊
I worked at three of them as a waiter. Makes me sad to see the company decline😥 One of the hardest jobs I ever had really but still have love for the place. People there hang out together there after work, kinda miss that. Always had a ton of money working there.
