This is also the reason Miss Ross never won a grammy. Diana Ross can sing anything but she is a pop singer not a soul singer, and this is why she never got a grammy, because being black she was always up against Aretha and Patti when she should have been in the pop category.
Well of course my vote goes for the on and only Miss Diana Ross. Miss Ross basically changed the landscape of music, and the supremes with Miss Ross as lead singer still holds the title of most successful female group of all time and the record still holds. Never been a fan of Patti Labelle , but i do like some of Aretha's oldies. And by the way Miss Ross has quite a few live albums, which i have grown up with and you guys should go out and get them because she is flawless, live.

This is silly neither Aretha or Patti are as successful or in the same league as Diane. Aretha in her prime was the best singer but today Diane sounds much better than Aretha & Patti's losing it.

The OVERALL body of work that Ms. Diana Ross owns is ground-breaking. Diana Ross was in the Guinness Book of World Records, nominated for an Academy Award, first black woman to do a major network TV special, owned her own record label, production company etc... Toured Russia, Japan, Europe, Asia all before Aretha, Patti, etc. Diana shuts Aretha and Patti down. Aretha Franklin didn't even appear on big national T.V. regularly in the 60's, never even did the Ed Sullivan show. Patti was NOWHERE in the 60's, as far as national fame...Ms. Ross RULES ALL these women...its stupid to compare and not know the difference between Diana and the rest. Its foolish....Fool yourself if you will but Aretha and Patti know.

@phillyTne Yes, all of those ladies were predecessors of jazz/blues; however, Diana Ross as lead of the Supremes changed the way Black music was popularized. Additionally, she was a pioneer in how black women in music could be marketed mainstream in pop/adult contemporary & in film. She also paved the way on how a black female artist could acquire mega-contracts, which were reserved for her white counterparts.
