Thank you to those of you who have ever: Read my book: www.pre-kpages.com/teach-smarter-book/ Listened to my podcast: www.pre-kpages.com/listen/ Shopped in my store: www.pre-kpages.com/shop/
Throughout this journey, you have become more than just an audience. You have become a part of the fabric that holds our community together. Each comment, share, like, review, and word of encouragement from you has added a new thread to this tapestry.
With your continued support, I will continue to strive to make Pre-K Pages a beacon of excellence in the field of early childhood education. Together, let's continue to make a difference in the world of education.
It's much easier and more effective than teaching a letter a week. Here's another video on this topic you may find helpful: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HnP-Y05tpTg.htmlsi=-VOMTak0hYc_qaMm

Not sure which one you're referring to. If it's where I store my manipulatives and art supplies, those are built-in cabinets in my classroom. Let me know if that's not what you're referring to.
I have been teaching for 20 years and dislike the behaviour chart system! Never helped the behavioural problem. Even for my own children never liked it. These charts are demeaning to the child!
Are you referring to the blog post or on the video itself? I checked the blog post and found only one typo (expectations) but no references to marbles or spitting. If it's a typo on the captions that appear on the screen, then I can't fix it as this video was edited by my production company.
How rude! Just click away, why bother to leave a comment? Adding sorry at the end doesn't make it ok. I just survived a year long battle with stage 3 breast cancer and have no patience for bullies - get a life!
Vanessa, thank you for doing this video. I am a Caregiver that provides care for children, adults and pets. Recently I had a client with Autism, which was a challenge. I am now being considered for an afterschool program for 3-5 year olds. Some of the requirements for this job is to write a lesson plan. So, I appreciate on creating Lesson Plans. Thanks again...Flo

Pre-K state requirements where I live mandate Alphabet, shapes, colors, numbers to be posted on walls, in addition to calendar, weather, visual schedule, not to mention 2 bulletin boards with administrative items used once in a while by teachers and checked by state (schedule-I know mine) class roster (month in, I am confident) We also are mandated to have birthday board, child's work bbd, monthly theme bulletin board, and 6 posters of people, food, plants, animals and landmarks also mandated by state. I also have a room theme (required). Nothing can be taken down. My classroom belongs neither to the children or me, but to the state and its mandates.
Are you referring to the childcare licensing laws in your state? My perspective is always that of a public Pre-Kindergarten teacher in a school system. Public schools would never mandate birthday boards, room themes, or much of what you described - but if there is a state that does any of this, I would love to know which one!
I got most of them from the Target Bullseye Playground. You can also find some at Party City, and sometimes Michaels. Online, they can be found at Oriental Trading and Amazon.
21:39 This is excellent advice. I struggle to remember to do this and appreciate this and the circle time discussion as prevention. Attention on compassion for the hurt child. I am really looking for ideas on activities to discuss and teach the child to self redirect.
Would you agree that sometimes the best thing to do is change what you’re doing and adapt if children aren’t able to regulate at circle time. By this I mean stop the story and sing a song or do a movement activity instead. 3 -5 year olds aren’t always meant to sit and ‘forcing’ them to is counter productive. Redirect your plan to fit the needs of the children.
I have a nightmare scenario. The CEO/Principal/Boss of a new preschool in Japan has no preschool experience and wanted to create a school with very limited rules, mostly play, and encouraged loud voices thinking that's what's best for children. I was hired to be a home room English teacher (along one assistant) to 16 three year olds in 2022 then 22/23 three year olds in 2023 (I've never been a preschool teacher before and I wanted to breakdown daily) for 8 hours every weekday and I was not adequately trained or supported the whole time. I just felt that I would just have to suffer through it thinking this is the way preschool is supposed to be. But after watching your channel, I am gaining so many skills to help the class run more efficiently and to be a better teacher and caregiver. Luckily my class this year only has 14 kids. The principal was recently ousted and they hired an equally inexperienced new guy to replace him, but now I feel I can steer the school in a new direction by asserting myself as I practice what I learn on this channel. Thank you so much for sharing your experience and knowledge in your videos. Newbies like me are so grateful for your ideas and insights!
I have a question, if a child is having trouble keeping their hands to themselves, do you put them separetly at a table where they can still see everything and participate or not?
I hope to come back soon to create new content, thanks for watching! Unfortunately I have been on hiatus since 10-24 due to a breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.
My school in Japan made me teach writing letters with tracing within 3 weeks after starting the school year for my 3 year olds. It was tough. I had 22 kids and I was overwhelmed, the kids were frustrated with it, and I just couldn't understand why they would need to start so soon! I'm glad you said 3 year olds need exposure only!
Very helpful, thank you! I’m teaching a pre-k class beginning April (taking over for a teacher that was let go) and 90% of the class doesn’t know the alphabet 🤦🏻♀️ (teacher lied about progress and now these poor kids have to cram with me to hopefully make the connections to letters). This school I’m at is also very dated, while undergoing changes/updates, but they still teach as if it’s the 90’s (I.e. letters of the week) so maybe that’s why this class isn’t getting it yet… 🤷🏻♀️ I think it makes perfect sense for kids to find the meaning, for themselves, in what they’re learning, and I appreciate the tips here!
This is so interesting. I am a teacher assistant in a NAC accredited learning center. We have 20 3 year olds with one lead teacher and one assistant. We face many struggles with behavior, even extreme behavior such a hitting and throwing toys out of anger. How do you handle these particular behaviors? I have also observed the children snatching toys from others and taunting each other with them. It can be very exhausting to deal with daily. I think we have too many kids between two of us.
I'm going to assume you're in Texas or one of the neighboring states because those ratios are insane, I don't get how they can get away with that when other states have much lower ratios. Any classroom with 20 3 year-olds is going to be chaos. 3 year-olds hit and throw things out of frustration because a) they've only been on this planet for 36 months b) they may not have the language yet to adequately express themselves c) impulse control is an executive function skill that they haven't developed yet. What you can do: a) model repeatedly (daily) how to ask for a turn, wait for a turn, and what to do if someone says "no" b) give children the words they can use when asking for a turn and responding. This done through the daily modeling. Avoid using the term "use your words" because it assumes they already have the words to use. Never assume something has made it into their long term memory yet (see 36 month statement above) Hope this helps and good luck!
