I met Mary Chapin Carpenter long before she became famous. She was a great singer then and she's only gotten better. Every time I hear this song it gives me hope.
Love all her songs. When would you come to Paris for some concerts Mary-Chapin??? I have a hall about 200km from Paris we will be honored to have you here.. The place is call La Ferté St. Aubin;; Jennifer.
I have met Allison twice and let me tell you, she is the most down to earth sweet real person you’ll ever meet. She loves her fans dearly and when you talk to her face-to-face, you know she means everything she tells you when there’s no BS after you talk with her a little bit, she kind of reminds you of your neighbor next-door. She has got so much talent that she could be a snob nose if she wanted to be, but she chooses not. I’ve met a lot of well plenty of musicians and such and I can tell you also, all her band mates, in union station are the same. What a tribute to Bluegrass music and just to the human element they are.
Tonight is the first time that I heard this song. In my eyes I don’t see Mary as a singer but rather as a poet, and not just a poet, but rather as one of the best that we have, or have ever had!!
You're so mesmerising, I do this and a few more of your songs as a Solo Music performer unplugged in Bangalore South India at the Welcome hotel on Richmond Road. God bless you 🇮🇳🙏😇
Just rediscovered this song. I guess I’m 20 years older from when I bought the album when it first came out. What I can really appreciate now, as others have commented, is how perfectly balanced and seamless all the components of this song are. Dobro, mandolin, Guitar, bass, violin, lead and back up vocals. Every little moment and nuance seems perfectly complementary to the moment before, The moment after, and the whole. E.g. at 2:22 The backup singers do a little “whoa-oh” behind Allison’s chorus that they don’t do anywhere else in the song. It’s a really nice little bit that perks up the chorus after its been heard a number of times already. I feel like throughout the song they are adding new clicks on the instruments or new backup vocals to ensure that the song is progressing from start to finish and not getting repetitive even as the chorus and verse structure repeats. Just awesome musicality to me.
Go back and read Genesis again, Eve was the "darling of Creation". God's greatest creation. And Mary Chapin Carpenter is no question part of this gifted lineage. Mary has this "mother earth" sentimentality and intimacy that frames life in the most sensible ways. You can feel it, you can think it, you can remember it in your heart.
