It's been said on Twitter that the ws team was the one who crosschecked the scenario. I can only assume that, on a similar vein to their other references, they likely had a gag that was similar and likely asked Bushiroad to crosscheck the scene for the game. Plus since Fantasia Bunko is getting a vol. 2, it's more PR for their parent company.
I'm glad you covered this, I was completely unaware. I think its crazy to destroy cards because there aren't enough players. I know that some may just view it as cardboard, but people travel for it. Don't just destroy the cards, send them back to hq or do something else with them. What were the legal sets available to use?
There were still several good sets that could be used. Chainsaw Man (before banlist hit), Spy X Family, i think Slime was still good to run? I should have showed the "banlist" of the sets again but was more concerned on getting the questions answered. I made a previous video that shows the list if you want to see what wasn't allowed, which was 14 different series. And yes, the destruction of prize cards caught many people off guard
I completed the survey before seeing the video. Mainly asked for better event locations in europe, and requested more cards for my favorite set. An online simulator would be great, but i dont need it that much.
Honestly that's still very fair. Considering all the crazy stuff that went down for Bulgaria, asking for better event locations is a great idea! Thank you for doing your part in trying to help improve conditions for the players!
As long as Blackfire is in charge of Europe, we only have the choice between their bad tournament organisation and no tournaments at all. That's why most of the playerbase is pragmatic in that regard. Nothing is going to change anyway. Btw, that school venue in Austria is one of the better locations compared to some of their choices in the past.
I will say while the effects can be a bit strange to see at first, i will say the images of the cards on screen are WAY worse than what they look like in person. I was really down on the OFR images of the cards while looking at thr previews, but when i saw them in person it was definitely manageable.
The thing about not attending regionals in protest is that they're free-to-enter events, so it doesn't hurt Bushiroad/Blackfire at all if people don't attend (at least not directly). And even if they did, you'd also need a way to communicate to them that people would attend if the location/licensing/whatever was better, rather than that there simply isn't interest to begin with.
You will have the problem comming soon over in the US too with the sets that are allowed in SEA and will be brought over to the US inevitebly. The players and judges are fighting for the better or worse for multiple years already and people like me already have resigned with making an effort at all, just to emphazise on it again, we are not setteling for it, we are sick of trying at all since for so many years nothing changed pretty much. I am also not sure how people coult not have seen me personally rambling in multiple Discord servern frequently about it or other known people in the community from Europe, its honestly beyond me. Further more the phrase of "it has to be that way" is kinda on point on why some things as they are, I am affiliatet with the player base for more than a decade and somewhat know about a thing or two in regards to the organization and I have to say that things are getting better the last 2 years even tho Bulgaria was a fiasco. You have no idea how big of a deal it is already to have dates with days for the games right at the get go of the announcement of the BCS even being a thing. Usually at best we would have like 3 weeks before the first event even the dates. Also I am not sure where exactly your issue is with what happened in Bulgaria, was it the low show up numbers the sets or that it is like this for years? All the things where known issues and if you payed attention to the community outside the US it wouldnt suprise anyone actually.
The fact that Blackfire decided to destroy the promos at the event is ridiculous. If they were going to destroy them, they should have done it at their offices rather than at the event. I feel it is quite demoralising. If this was an instruction from Bushiroad, then I get it had to be done, but it should never have been done at the event to the knowledge of the players. It baffles me. Thanks for the casual shout out by the way! Haha! But, ultimately, the tournament scene in Europe need to be seriously looked at. It is not supported as well as it could be compared to other regions. I am hoping with Bushi Expo happening in Europe might cause changes, but will have to wait and see.
I'm in an awkward spot where I want to maintain my judge status, so I have to be careful with what I say. But, at the same time, freedom of speech is a thing and I want to talk about things more as a content creator. It is a rather awkward spot
Players in Europe have spoken up about this and all the other things that have gone wrong in recent years so much, but it seems to fall on deaf ears. It is really disappointing that concerns haven't been taken on board, but, at the same time, if we done attend, some fear that Bushi just won't hold events in Europe, especially after the Konami/YuGiOh fiasco in Europe
Bushiroad struggles to get prizes to US stores, why are we surprised that eastern Europe is having bad issues. The issue is what other choice do they have. Weiss events all over the world deal with bannings over license issues. At WGP events we here in the US can't play Disney owned sets among others like School Girl Strikers. South America has a lot of set bans in eng as well. Sucks for them but it's from how our game is based on licenses. Also as far as attendance there was a springfest team event in Columbus Ohio that had 12 teams if I remember correctly in 2018. Attendance was destroyed because people thought you had to pay for an Origins game fair badge to enter the con to get to the event even though your at teams all day so your not at the con.
The problem with Bushi tournaments in EU isnt just the bad organizing, it runs much deeper. Events are regurarely hostet at extremely inconvenient locations. They are either extremely small (max 64 players capacity - for a worlds qualifier event like BCS), or at locations that are 3+ hours away from the nearest airport. If just sets randomly not being legal to play were our only problems, that would be sooo great! Edit: The event at the school in Austria actually had enough space to walk around. It was one of the better locations i was in (regarding weiss) in the recent years. If there were more (or any) signs to guide non-locals to the right place, then i would even say it was a great location!
I don't think I've ever heard of TOs destroying prizes, I would have assumed they just go back to Bushiroad, but IDK how Blackfire does things. If a tournament has a very large number of participants they will split it up into blocks, and each block gets separate prizes, which means Bushiroad must have extras available for such cases. So the idea that they need to destroy them sounds pretty unusual.
Grisiaia is a set I wish I was better with. It’s such a fun deck and I’m happy to see it top. The one Arifureta deck almost gave me an aneurism with how all over the place it is
I was just interested in trading cards and Hololive. I just stumbled into learning about WS this week. Learning that Hololive has an official TCG starting in September I'll wait and start with the official Hololive TCG first as it will probably be easier to learn ground floor with the rest of the newbies. If Hololive WS stays active I may also check it out eventually.
Have you played or collected any of the Frieren cards yet? Or do you only focus on the English side of Weiss? (Hopefully Frieren will get an English release in the future)
After played MtG for 30 years I had get enough. Them I try new games, mainly Flesh and Blood, Weiss Shcwartz and Grand Archive. I buy a pair of decks and treat like a non-colectable game with my friends. FaB I play not many times. WS I start to play recently, I have Suisei deck and Korone deck. But GA turn into my favorite. WS is the second. Keep in mind, Im brasilian ad import this games.
I was the Spy player who played 2x bar choice, thank you for the shout out!! Appreciate it! The deck looks simple on paper but it not as easy to pilot like the normal meta is. I'll get around to making a video on the deck but my record with it was 5-3 with 1 tie (unfinished game). Overall, I had fun at the event and am super glad I could put a different spy build on the map.
As a well known player from europe i can tell you, no 1 went to that tournament, no 1 cared about that one, considering you cant play any set in there.
People just didnt show up for the event in Bulgaria. Further more, that its a singles event is normal procedure for events that dont hit the minimum treshhold for events to be a team event. I think the reason why not many turned up might be a multitude of reasons, not many sets bening allowed might just be one. Also this issue is all over present in Europe for multiple years by now and its a frequent complaint from me personally for years.
As a MtG player my problems with the game are the stupidest card. varients, the weird crossovers, and the sheer amount of product that is released. I can’t remember the last time I got excited for a new MtG product.
