I was in an amateur production of this years ago, understudying for Audrey II. The lead guy was a better singer than me, but the director liked my speaking voice and line delivery. I did the matinee the first week and they switched me to understudying Mushnik. They said my take on Audrey II was too scary. To be fair, I did play it a little more sinister than I probably should have.
Does anyone else hate how the main characters sing? Like they all sing with less soul and vibrancy of the original? They're all using a very interesting nasally "stage* voice and it's annoying AF.
