HI! Everything OK? Nice video! Can you help me by making a video that explains how to put CTCSS? I have a VX7R too, but I can't get CTCSS into it! I have a radio with a pre-programmed frequency of 460.225mhz and ctcss/cdcss-023. I read the manual and the CTCSS on the VX7r is only on the RX, on the TX not. Baofeng is much simpler in terms of ease of use! PU2DCV QAP/QRV. Hug
I remember back when I was a police Explorer... the local department had these and they were absolute tanks of a radio. They had the remote mics with optional antennas "Public Safety Mics" as they called them. This was late 90s and early 2000s. Just before the entire state of ohio Migrated to the Ohio MARCs 800 mhz P25 trunking system. They sure don't make them like this anymore!
well,to bad they are solded ,,used so high for ham's .i would need one here tosupply the Service DMR at folks but it is so expensive.thanks for video, its a good one you did.73/s Gervais VE2CKN
Motorola made the STX in 800mhz only. The public safety versions were the STX-821 which had a channel changer at the top next to the volume button. The channels were numbered instead of 1 thru 16, had letters A thru I for the public safety version. The model you have is a privacy plus model for SMR 800mhz that radio shops offered for sale to the general public and businesses. You change the channel by pressing the front buttons for step and up and lock. The top orange button is for telephone, while the public safety model was for emergency call. I worked for Wachenhut Security and they had hundreds of these units in service in Miami-Dade County, Broward County and Palm Beach County in Florida. Only Miami Police, Miami Beach Police and North Miami Police used the Motorola STX from 1986 to 2000. Remember during the mid-1980s, this was before cellular phones became popular and cellular service was way too expensive for your average business. This is where pagers and privacy plus two way radio repeater service came into being. The radio shops would sell the radios and air time for wide area coverage. Air time was $25 a month per radio and you got 2 channels and 2 repeater radio sites. Many businesses used the privacy plus 800mhz two way services from taxi cabs, plumbers, tow trucks, a/c techs, electricians, security companies, etc.
Good memories. I had one programmed for nas on our public safety system. Also had the convertacom with advanced head. I recall the audio being really punchy on those.
I was in the fire explorers in the early 90s and we had a STX and it was so cool to listen to all the talkgroups with it trunking correctly vs a 800 scanner that could only scan all the channels, often out of order. the audio on that STX was kinda raspy but it was overlooked for the cool factor.
@@Subgunman The XPR 8300, 8400, 7550, 7550e, 5550, 5550e, 7380, 7380e and the SL7550 can all be fooled into adding extra functions using a well documented method of first reading and saving the radio tuning details with Motorola TUNER, take a pictute of your SERIAL number, you'll need that later, then change the serial number using Motorola DEPOT to a few special serials depending on the features you want to add. Next you replace the userdata.sdf file with a hacked one, then open up the codeplug but DON'T reading the radio. Instead you hit the ACTIVATE button and wait while it checks the radio, checks the hacked userdata.sdf and then presents you with a menu of features it thinks you paid for, then asks which of them you want to activate, Mixed, Mode, AES, Capacity+ etc. Select the features you want added and it will add them. Then load DEPOT and return the radio to the original pre-hacking SERIAL number you took a picture of, then load TUNER and load the original saved tuning settings back into the radio. Takes 10 minutes per radio, but the steps are important.
Thanks for the video, it doesn't make it seem such a daunting task. You said it passed encryption without modification, does that include AES or were you not able to test that level of encryption?
I've been trying to purchase this item on the internet I've even gone to ground white and they won't sell anything to anybody,so do you know who sells these I would like to purchase one
You probably know this already but you can certainly run a mixed mode, digital and analog, with these repeaters. Newer firmware with a factory unlock code allows this. The unlock codes are pretty easy to find.
i actually have been wanting this on my personal vehicle for a while, it would be perfect for parking lots or other busy areas. no way anyone could say they didnt know i was there with this ringing away. giving my car "flashing ditch lights" would compliment it well too.
BUENAS TARDES AMIGO QUIERO INFORMACION, TIENES LA MANERA DE HACER UN REPETIDOR USANDO DOS RADIO DIGITALES DGM 8000 YO MONTADO EN EL ANALOGO FUNCIONA CUANDO PROGRAMAMOS LOS IDES TODO CORRECTO NO FUNCIONA NO ACTUA
@@johnanders8861 Hey guys, I'm soooo late. You can use the average laptop charger/connector. For most chargers with a power supply(the little box) the part that plugs directly into the wall should plug into the port in the bell. Hope this helps, lmk if you need more info
Motorola online tell them what you need make an account. sign a few forms that say you cant give out or make copies of the software. pay a few hundred bucks and then get a programming cable. Then have a ball.
