I had one of these I really liked the power but the doggone thing would constantly pop out of gear. I tried to remedy it to no avail so as a last resort i just got a whole new engine and after about 3 weeks it started doing the same doggone thing. Tried messing around with the shifter mechanism , placing an extra gasket in the side case to see if the thickness would compensate.... nothing worked I sold it and rode my cousins RM , I really liked that Super rat too :(
Had the same one in the video. The plate on the steering tube said 1971. Bought it new off the show room floor in 73. Rode the wheels off it. I could wheelie that bike for a quarter mile. Great memories. ❤ Hodaka's. It was faster than the 125 Combat.
I had that exact one. Bought brand new in 73. Had a Webco HC Head installed. Probably the first upgrade many made with that bike. I loved it. That bike could wheelie. Had a friend who had the first yr 125 Combat Wombat. My Super Rat was faster !
I had a 1970 100 b in 1972 when the motor lost compression my dad bought me a super rat engine It was $180.00 I still have the receipt tucked in the owners manual i've had for 50 years .Back then i was told it developed 16 horsepower with the reed valve induction. I could hit 75 on the palisades parkway in New York or ride it right up the sides of the thruway bank on 287 in West Nyack. awesome bike, loved it.
I was at an auction in Colorado Springs in 2005. Bought a bunch of 100-125 Hodaka's. And one I had not seen before, a 250SL. Paid around $450 for it. It was clean and low mileage. Original owner was there, too. It had been idle for 20+ years. He had simply given it back to the dealer! I never started it. A girl came by from the Bakersfield area to pick up a 100-125 and I said I'd sell the 250 Now for $500 and she took it. It didn't have spark. My guess is the bike was just fine. I was burned out, had sooo many Ducati's and parts to sell, too..... And Someone bought a Huge inventory of Hodaka parts. Could have started a business...
Thanks for the info, still trying to figure out the model I got.I no it's a 1975 and its a 100 vCard been told its an automatic, I guess so there's no shift lever LOL. Goose neck has the tag starts offsite a big capital K. Would appreciate any thoughts on what it is. Thanks again.

Ha.I have alot of stories about that bike. Ioved it. Rode the wheels off it. I love these Hodaka videos Thankyou...
Very nice museum, I too grew up with Hodaka's, and so did many of my friends. There was a dealer not to far away from our town in Minnesota. Had a dirt squirt, my dad bought me in76. Then had 2rats, finally a 250 thunderdog! I took my motorcycle test with that! I loved that bike! Lotta low end for a 2 stroke. Loved it in the woods too. Over stumps, logs, etc. Thanks for the memories
As an employee of PABATCO/Hodaka at the time of the 1973 ISDT in Dalton, MA - I really like the concept of the story told by Mr. Jordan. Too bad it didn't happen.
Hugh Jordan I have a good knowledge of Hodaka history and the history of the 1973 ISDT . Lloyd Sadler is not mentioned in any of the records or results sorry
A good friend of mine, Lloyd Sadler, rode a Hodaka 100 in the 1973 ISDT in Dalton, Massachusetts. He not only finished, but he rode the bike from Indiana to Massachusetts AND BACK. True story!
I was raised on the motorcycles in early 70's and I was very close friends that had a go take shop here in marysville, washington at the time ,just so much fun with them as my dad was my mechanic growing up fixing everything. That ever went wrong. Great times.
Cool bike. The shifter mechanism was a little weak though. Dad had a wombat and threw in a single ring piston. Chain was also just a little more than a bicycle chain.
I won a signed preston petty front fender. Beautiful!!! I gave it to my friend for his birthday. He LOVED it.... It made his day. He said he has to put the fender on the "Right" bike that he will restore, and not ride. :) Glad I looked this up. :)
We put 'MX front' on the fender to delineate it from our 'MX rear' fender. Our original fender had no name on it but as our line expanded we needed to add 'Baja' to its name.
Paul, I was looking at your video tonight and I have a 94A Wombat, but my taillight is not the rectangular taillight it is the "old" style, I rechecked mine was built 3/1973. Is this something unusual?
