it just clicked for me, manhattan being an idiot due to his perception of time is another deconstructive angle from Moore, he’s saying having super powers would suck. cheers thanks for the good videos blokes c,:’
1:21:40 “as long as there is a government there’ll always be mistrust for it” this is what is meant by the phrase we commonly see; “who watches the watchmen” and its one of the more significant themes imo. Moore is an anarchist and this is a fairly anarchist work and its meant to make you wonder who gets to call the shots and why; is it the corrupt world super powers who helm the nukes that could end humanity? is it doctor manhattan who feels nothing resembling empathy towards people as a whole and almost exclusively uses his power for violence against those helpless to him via instruction by said corrupt world super power? or is it ozymandias, who has a pyramid full of money and an ego to match it, who basically thinks he’s the reincarnation of one of histories most prolific warlords, who’s idea of helping people is melting 3,000,000 human beings with a psychic nightmare squid and traumatizing everyone else. A running theme here is that those we see in positions of power lack empathy, so what is there to do? another gordian knot maybe.
The names arent necessary "biblical" they are just reeeeaaaly old in the world of dune, the thing takes place in like the 20000s so our time ia very distant past, so names like paul and duncan are like "socrates" or "scipio" to us but even MORE remote and past sounding. So to them duncan idaho would sound like calling some one leonidas tebes or titus bisantium
It's also sooooo common for people to have regional names. If a girl called Paris showed up, they wouldn't bat an eye, but this one is from the US so they really went 'this is weird. Why does this future space man have a name that sounds weird to a present American?'
What's crazy is everybody said it was a horrible movie but nobody went to go see it for them to even say it was a horrible movie and it really wasn't even that bad of a movie It really wasn't the only problem with morbius is it should have just went our rated instead of PG-13 that was it flaw because morbius is a character that was introduced in Spider-Man comic book but right after that he spun off into his own spin-off and he did his own thing So he's really not that tied to Spider-Man like that So it was weird when people were like oh my God you should have put Spider-Man yes Spider-Man would have been great to see in the movie but morbius is a character that has and can stand on his own The only problem is it should have been r-rated
They should get credit for trying to follow the youngsters, thinking it would sell more tickets after the memes. "The coffin dance" did make people stream the original more. So it does go "the right way" some times 😅
Now I see why everyone thought Mornius sucked. Looked great but once I hear this I’m just disappointed that they even thought this would be a good idea
They dont need to give up but what they could do is take a few marvel stafff on board and write storys that intertwine with the mcu but not directly and go from there, n hopefully films like this wont be that bad
