I remember watching this movie over and over as a kid since my dad bought it for me as a gift, thinking it was the Steven Spielberg version 😂 It's so accurate to the book, and sooooo bad. I have a nostalgia for it but MAN I haven't seen the whole movie in a long time and every time I see a clip, I cringe so hard haha
Haven't seen this teaser in years! I vividly remember how excited I and all other fans at The War of the Worlds Online were about this version. I also vividly recall the sinking feeling I had when that horrid VFX shot of Big Ben came along at the end of this teaser.
@@SteVin89 What a treat to hear from someone who was around when this film was first released! Out of curiosity, what was it like back then, knowing there were two (or three if you count Asylum's version, although I'm not sure the release of that one was announced) WotW movies coming, for which one of them you had higher hopes? And at what point did you all, um, see the Pendragon version for what it was?
@@scorch1648 I was around fifteen when this was going on, so quite naive when it came to movies and how they are made. The Spielberg movie turned out to be the best of the three in my opinion, but in the lead up fans there was a general persuasion that this was David amd Goliath scenario, with most of us rooting for the more faithful adaptation of Wells' novel. When the movies finally released people were, of course, disapointed with the Pendragon production, however there were some that still preferred it over Spielberg's version. I especially remember many being impressed with the musical score. Fans quickly put their hopes into a rumoured animated film by Jeff Wayne; a project that never materialized. The animation work that was done with Wayne's adaptation turned out to be for the live on stage version of his musical version. Forgive my long-winded answer, but this teaser brought back many memories.
The one time a movie gets every last detail correct it has bad quality, wish this had the budget of the 2005 one, the 2005 is perfect but would be outstanding if it was more accurate
Well, the resolution is like this because this is a trailer which Pendragon had uploaded on their website some, ahem, *19 years* ago. Obviously, the resolution of the actual released movie is better
The Thunderchild took down *two* fighting machines in the book actually. Funnily enough, I for some reason thought they showed it taking down *three* of them in this movie, but no, they kept it accurate to the novel here as well
@@KuperSpyronicStudios sorry for a late reply. In the novel the Thunderchild took down the first tripod with her guns, presumably, and the second with ramming it after being hit by a heat ray. As for the third one, after the Thunderchild exploded, the steam mixed with the black smoke spread out so that, almost direct quote from the novel, nothing could be made out of the third fighting machine. By the way, in a hypothetical novel-accurate adaptation of WotW I'd love to make (but quite unprobable I will) I plan to show the Thunderchild taking down all the three tripods, with her ramming another one after it launches a black smoke canister at the ship
Lashing ropes and smashing timbers Flashing heat rays pierced the deck Dashing hopes for our deliverance As we watched the sinking wreck With the smoke of battle clearing Over graves in waves defiled Slowly disappearing Farewell Thunder Child!
Note that the footage seen at 0:36 was ironically reused in Pendragons’ remake of this movie, “War of the Worlds: The True Story”, with the tripod’s leg going over the soldiers added
@@JgaAllen Right, that's true. By the way, a few videos related to the Pendragon's film (the 2005 one) posted on youtube have mysteriously disappeared from there lately. Apparently, the creators of the films are out again to erease any trace of their film. So, you may want to download all the trailers and stuff related to the film I've uploaded before it gets taken down
Note that Anthony Piana has moustache in this vid, meaning he can actually grow it and doesn't have to wear cheesy cardboard substitude for it in real life like he did in the film
Thanks I've been waiting a long time for reposting videos of this film on this site. I love it better than the asylum version in my book. Tom Cruise one is still better then this one
Yeah, I also might upload a video regarding the original version of the film (the one which was to be set in Seattle in modern days) with concept art for it and so on. Personally speaking, I actually like the Asylum version *more* than the PP film, at least for the fact they filmed the night scenes in the actual damn night, and it also does an ok job adapting the original book (despite changing the setting and the ummm tripods (which are not even tripods anymore) design). The Tom Cruise version I really like, but IMO the best version is 'The True Story', which is just a remake of the Pendragon film but done right and with responsibility. I actually like it more than its fake documentary-style-wise counterpart, 'The Great Martian War'
Frankly, I think the acting is one of the least problems in this movie (actors of the Curate and the Writer actually act really well, I'd dare to say). Everything else though. . .
@MaskedMan66 No, the film budget was $25 million, which was 3 times the budget of the 1953 War of the Worlds movie back in 2005. The Jeff Wayne's Musical stage show that came out less than a year after this movie, did the Thunder Child battle far better justice with far less money and only 3 weeks to animated the CGI animation for that entire stage show.
I like how clunky this scene is because it looks more creepy with those shots, the lighting falling at the start and Brathiska beating the shit out the captain
Bratiska simply could not stand it after the bullying, humiliation and sexual violence against the Crazy former officer from the village, they were going to be executed for unknown war crimes
@@TheEpicGest this film didn't just take take inspiration from the book, it actually has to be the most accurate adaptation of it... and, imho, the crappiest. On a side node, speaking of the year in which the action takes place in the book: I don't think that it is actually 1894. This can be proved by a sentence from about the very start of the book, which says "early in the *twentieth century* came the great disillusionment." And the year 1894 wasn't during the twentieth century anyhow but the nineteenth one. On the other hand, the official sequel to the novel titled 'The massacre of mankind', which is set in 1920, mentions that the first invasion occured thirteen years before, therefore making the year it took place 1907.
Hey, I'm really curious how you got so many old Araxuss videos? damn it would be great to know, I'm also curious how you know his videos because Araxuss is from Poland and his videos are in Polish, I guess you're from another country
I might add subtitles when I'll have some time. The "Szata Sithów domowej roboty czy coś tam..." vid already has them, you can check it out if you want
