He never really had possession of the ball. He’s lucky the ump gave him that out at second. The slide was fine but with todays rules it was close to being dirty. In the past, they wound be patting him on the back in the dugout for that slide.
He slid soooo late and made no attempt to even stop on the bag. Infielder fumbled the ball way before he got there still. Hard to tell from this angle tho
Professional ballplayers know how to slide to a bag just like they know how to slide past a bag to disrupt a double play. No doubt the fielder mishandled the ball but the baserunner knew what he was doing
In this case it looks like the slide was to the 3B side of the bag which is the safest place if you slide past at all as fielders usually move towards in other direction. He also held the bag which is usually considered reasonable in over sliding. He barely made contact with his torso, which is not an attempt to injure, just bad luck. In this case, it seemed like a totally clean slide and the fielder over reacted. IMHO.
