As an interceptor and SEAD platform when in service and perfected it was actually the best in the world. It was never meant to be a pure fighter but for long range interceptor defence it was pretty damn good. The f3 had the lengthened fuselage and more aerodynamic (lower drag) forward wing gloves which gave it more range and more speed than the IDS variant. Converting the IDS variant to have the same lengthened fuselage and wing glove arrangement was considered to improve the variants pedestrian range and performance but dropped on cost grounds. The f3 also had auto wing sweep which is something the IDS variant never had. The F3 variant was the ultimate Tornado variant.

It was rather a good paint scheme. Must have been expensive to get done but well worth it. It just fits the shape of the Hunter so well. I like what he said about selecting the registration. PSST = Personal Supersonic Transport. We all know the Hunter was only supersonic in a dive but it sounds good anyway.
The P-47 looks like a heavy beast compared to the nimble looking P-51. I have read that during the war that the P-51 cost about half of what the P-47 cost per plane. Any truth to that?
I guess I'm the only one that finds the photography not that impressive. So close the entire time you can't really tell what is going on. What aerobatics?
Thanks for your comment Peter. It is a Hawker Fury ISS (Iraqi Single Seat) masquerading as the Hawker Sea Fury prototype. You can see there is no arrester hook. I have added to the title and description to make it clearer. Cheers.
Another thing I'd add (after watching again for my roughty engine fix) is the multitude of Spitfires in the background. Gratz to the Spitfite you made it! We ain't running out of air worthy models anytime soon. What we do need are more of the truly unsung heroes. The Tempests, Typhoons, Furys up there to mystify us and blow us away.
I heard that sound one August afternoon in 1979 when I was somewhere west of Lusaka. I knew it was a Hawker Hunter and I really wanted to see it but the sky was so clear and blue I searched and searched but I couldn't see a thing, only that haunting sound. Then far in the north horizon I saw a black dot rapidly descending and a few seconds later 2 loud bangs.
