The audio balance is WAY OFF in this video in the orchestra side especially and the volume is too soft on both sides. It is quite abysmal that this has gone for this long and not fixed and nobody at the Attraction to date seems to care that it is this way :( I wouldn't be surprise if this is still an issue when they get it back up and running in the future unless someone addresses it finally.
It is quite amazing how this instrument still plays as well as it does with constant use. These early instruments tend to be fragile. There was a barrel piano in the Music House Museum in Traverse City, MI that they didn't even play because of it's fragile nature and wasn't even one they would have constantly playing.
This is the last time to date where I heard this with no audio glitches. The reason for it being "out of order" *might* have been whilst the Attraction was working out music licensing since the original Ace Cannon "Yakety Sax" recording out there (where the "Kitty's Sax" originated) was featured on a digital Ace Cannon compilation album released by Gusto Records that September. So they probably just voluntarily shut it down temporarily in lite of the record label copyright claiming the recording played (unless this was related to a fault with the machine and keep in mind that no sound of coming out of the sax in December so it could have been all related to a glitch).

This is going to need to be dealt with. This can't get any worse I don't think as far as tuning goes. I just don't know how Jenny will deal with this one once it breaks (I fear Jenny will place it towards the bottom of the list and the token box for it will be removed once it does and it will be like the "lincoln Welte"). But on the other hand this is a machine right on the path so claiming it is "not essential" to have working would be a poor decision (especially with the nearby Hearse apparently not being essential to have fixed). But I have seen unbelievably poor decisions made there so you can't ever rule it out (even if it seems bad for their business). They probably wouldn't just remove it from the exhibit to sell it without having something to replace it with (but the machine is bigger size thankfully making it way harder for management to just place it in storage and forget about it) and plus it is installed in it's own room and hard to miss along the path (and the best hope is this is a motive to get it fixed).
Did the things on the harp move at all? That would be a good indicator that it is an electrical issue and NOT just some glitch with pneumatics because those things on the harp are electro-mechcanical and not air powered like the rest (but the pneumatic actions are also controlled with electronic valves). I'm guessing those didn't work either.
This shows that maybe some more major repairs are needed to the animation aspect since they got the tambourines in castanets working earlier this year and they now aren't anymore. I think the hoses need to be redone as they are probably old and leaky or there is some kinks causing an imbalance of air pressure or both. This doesn't mean though that the music program or control system needs to be redone though at this time if it still works correctly (just redoing the pneumatic hoses and cleaning any dirty electrical parts).
Listening to this again, it sounds like the blowers running but there is no movement making me think it is something with the "black box" (probably from the lightning strike in August 2021).
I wonder where these decorative pieces came from? They weren't yet there in April 2019. These likely would have been from the facade of something else at one time that they repurposed.
This supposedly isn't returning despite it was recently restored in 2022. They supposedly can't keep it in tune. Hopefully it is being used someplace and not just sitting in HOTR storage in a fully restored condition.
It was NOT out for restoration during this period. This was just a servicing which included a tune up (that didn't hold) and lubrication to the noisy false barrel mechanism! The relay of concern wasn't even replaced because it still buzzes. If they replaced a relay then, it was one (different from the one that buzzes and causes the flickering lights) that caused it to die briefly then (and therefore needed to be replaced to get it back working). I'm guessing the buzzing relay won't be replaced until it causes the machine to die and become all out of service. The air problems with the organ is clearly a whole separate problem that needs to be addressed separately (and hasn't at all yet).
@@bencerne2551 It's could be that the Peacock's blower got hit at some point too (which now is being replaced and has been problematic in recent years). According to the Attraction, a new blower for it is coming from the UK (it's unclear if the spring that was mentioned last Winter was replaced yet or not).
@@bencerne2551 If they can replace the blower on the Peacock, they can do the same for the FJ (that perhaps could be the next thing they work on and restore).
The design was likely put there to make it look less obvious to the average guest that a token box was there (because the light shining at just an empty space makes it look like something is missing). That decoration piece (and the one where the Aida token box was) had to have come from something that was dismantled (I can't yet figure it out though). I don't think those machines are out permanently but just won't be fixed anytime soon (at least under present management).
The Mikado was tuned by my visit on June 17th, 2018. Also the timing of the Gatehouse Ensemble was adjusted by this June visit and I was there on the day the Circus Orchestra officially died.
More is needed than just a reset. Either the original pump motor needs to have it's winding redone or something needs to be done with the modern electric replacement it was later given (following the pump motor breaking in 2014). Another option is to try another modern replacement. A full tuning job is likely also needed.
@@RockStarOscarStern634 I agree! But this right now is not top priority for repair. According the the Jenny who is the Director, there are "a lot of more complicated issues with it" as this year's excuse for now not presently fixing it (this escalated from a "broken motor" to "complicated issues" from just last year). I find it hard to believe that there are bigger issues with it than the motor now when that wasn't the case just last year (even the repair guy told my friend just last Fall it was a matter of the motor needing to be redone and him not knowing how to repair the old pump motor). Jenny's claim is probably a lie. Reasons for not fixing this machine right now are lame at best!

I think the main thing is that they are fearful of working on it due to being such a large and priceless antique piece (and perhaps tuning like we previously discussed with the Encore Banjo). It will play someday despite one of the employees last year thought it wouldn't ever work again (for the record it isn't even far gone and could be fixed today if they wanted it to be).
The marimba has two tiers an upper and lower (both beneath the vibraharp). However, the lower marimba tier last attempted to work in December 2011 (after the "major renovation") but only one beater barely twitched then. The one that is working in your video (the upper marimba tier) is the one that has worked in recent years (and at times before the upgrade).
It has been proven that the Hupfeld sat in this location but it is unknown where the Seaburg KT was originally in the Mill House (maybe where the non functional Regina music box is today under the hand pointing to the Streets of Yesterday?).
Actually there are a pair of castanets inside the frame that was removed for some reason by 2007. It however still utilizes the original music program (but it could have been originally on tape loop later to be converted to CD ROM).
This is not being renovated to where it is playable. If anything, they did opposite to it. All the "Moon of Manakoora" music machine (at House on the Rock) was designed to ever do (upon preforming) was enhance the existing 1959 recordings with in house additives (not part of "Exotica III" tracks) and live percussion corresponding with those on the recordings. Apparently, when this machine last played, the LP audio soundtracks weren't even yet part of Universal Music Group or UMG. The signage (which the Director wouldn't even acknowledge) might have been used to indicate the exhibit undergoing a nonphysical "alteration" into the 1959 “Exotica III" Capitol Records re-release with the "Exotica III" heard on this machine's audio tracks (the marimbas, bass, chimes, glockenspiel, vibes and the guiro, woodblock, conga, bongo, cymbals and piano parts that were to be embellished by the instruments in-house, part of it's prerecorded SFX) and "MOON OF MANAKOORA" name (from a song title on "Exotica III") as these are features of the Exotica III re-release (following this exhibit being decommissioned). Perhaps Jenny felt because explaining this to the average guest would go over the comprehension of the average guest (who don't know it's back story, it was best to not explain the "motive" or signage at all) and reacted as if it were tied to a "trade secret". There still needs to be more trumpet and brass on the band wagon side. The balance however is better on the orchestra side (except the glock is too loud).
The Alex Jordan Jr. Center opened in 2010 but I believe the DVD videos (including the one for purchase in the Gift Shop) were all made earlier (all the audio recordings heard are samples from the CD/cassettes and are early recordings but the footage is newer).
