Thinking about moving (from Oregon) to Grand Rapids but still doing some homework on its suburbs, weather, housing, I’m retired but keep myself busy so accessibility to entertainment, restaurants, shopping is important.
One of the places I’m considering moving to is Grand Rapids (suburb) but I’d like to know how severe winters really are, I live in the Oregon forest where we have the four seasons and snow on the ground for at least 3-4 months a year but our winters here are relatively mild, normally 20-30’s and seldom experience blizzards. I’m old(er) 64 and although I’m in fairly good physical health I’m at the point where I need to live in a condo where they take care of all outdoor services including plowing the snow.
@@livegreatgr there are several reasons I’d like to move to that part of the US. It doesn’t have to be Michigan it could also be Illinois or even Indiana as long as they are pretty (lots of trees), have the 4 seasons and they are less expensive than the PNW..a place that is fun and big in culture

Tbh I didn’t have an issue with parking through downtown etc. Then we went to Detroit and still no issues. We must’ve just got lucky 😭. I’m from Austin so yeah I was happy to get a spot.

I've lived all over the country. Born and raised in California, but all of my family is in Michigan, and I spent many years there myself. The sense of community, and the way people treat each other in Michigan, compared to California, is night and day. There is no sense of community left in California, sadly. You can live next to someone for your entire life and never be invited to their home, or even acknowledged. Californians just keep to themselves, but Michiganders really take pride in their community vibes. Weather is really the only Pro to California in 2024, assuming you aren't wealthy. If you've got millions, California is hard to beat.
Smhh on Heritage Hill… big taxes and high renovation fees on houses that old.They bought up Fairview and put up new condos for rich doctors. No more older homes
What about Riverside Gardens? All of the older EGR people are buying up our unique homes in riverside. They sell in a day. Kingmas is within walking distance as is riverside park and you can get on your bike and ride the white pine trail! 5 minutes from everything downtown.m49505 voted most popular area code 2 years ago!
really enjoyed thisvideo. i really wished i had reached out to you when we moved from out of state blindly 2 mths ago...we got catfished on our apt, screwed over by our movers and it wasn't the area we would have preferred, but making the most of it and next april we'll decide it we are staying in west michigan. i just need to survive my very first winter.

I do believe traverse city strictly limits Airbnbs, could be wrong but I feel I read something recently about "how to get around traverse city regulations on Airbnb
Hey @ramonal2205! Traverse City has some pretty tight rules on short-term rentals like Airbnb. You can rent out rooms in your home if you’re there during the guest's stay, but renting out your whole house is mostly a no-go in residential areas.
