You should add timing (i.e. command start time) to the API, and an execution delay, this will remove the dependency on network latency that can be non-deterministic...
Wow Dan! If this is an appetizer for your upcoming plotter course, I can't wait to see the first videos. Love the relaxing presentations style of coding and instantly see what the code does. Learned a lot going from AxiDraw Python to a webserver and using it in Node (I presume this is node.js ?) I'm not that savvy in coding yet. Just starting out with Processing / P5.js to create SVG's Been playing around with Patternodes3 to generate SVG's I see you're using VSCode. At 09:59 you asked to invert the sine. How does that work, has it something to do with GitHub Copilot?
Oh yeah, it's it a good one!! Weirdly (or not I guess) I really like the fit on it too. I have other tees where I love the design but never wear 'cause they're just not right!
Thank you and could not agree more. Sadly back to lots of admin this week, sigh! Who knew being a full time artist consisted of so much not doing art?!
Really nice! Started making plots with dynamic pen heights, after I bought myself an iDraw earlier this year. Think it works wonderfully with the z axis being a stepper (more precise and a linear translation of the movement). When I tried it with a servo, I was never really happy. Is there a reason you use your axidraw?
The main reason I'm not using the iDraw for this is because I once accidentally attempted to plug the power cable into the usb port, and now it doesn't work so good 😬💀 Simple as that!
That Dylon stuff is so great. Wish i could get it in the U. S. as it is so easy to use. (Carhartt yellow overalls take the green really well. I think I used Olive but it’s been several years.)
Is there any way to share the code, so I can implement the same thing. Wow! I’ve been trying this for years to no avail. My programming skills are nonexistent, but I’ve been looking for anything. Literal goosebumps!!!
@@revdancatt i figured if you go low enough in precision there will be much less pen lift changes and hence noise - but i guess it could make the image less nice too
Nothing else, just a slow pen up/down configuration (setting both to the same value and alternating between them). I was trying the direct board controller commands but this was easier (but slightly less cool) in the end.
That's wonderfull news that the solicitor did what he had to do. I presume you're quite happy that the things with the old studio are going well. The outline for your plotter course looks magnificent . 👍👍
Ah it was such a surreal experience to see my zine on your table top! Loved hearing which bits you liked :) looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
Dan, would it be possible to simulate a racing star or racing finish with the Axidraw? A racing finish would be the gradual lift of the pen while the stroke is finished. It seems that it would require gradually stepping the lift as the line is drawn, or coding the simultaneous slow lift while the stroke is completed. The racing start is the opposite. It gradually lowers at the beginning of the stroke. This effect would simulate handwriting much more realistically if it could be figured out.
Yup you can do this, although most people don't. With the Axidraw/Nextdraw you can insert height settings into the SVG, works well with brush pens, but it's a LOT of faffing around to get the timing right which is why people generally stick with the x,y axis only.
It's been a fascinating journey Dan, I've watched all the Weeknotes from the beginning, also caught up on your blog, and I'm now up to date 🙂 - FWIW I got here from The Verge article that linked to you.
Yay, good to have you here. I can't believe you made it through all the Weeknotes from the beginning!! And that Verge comment really makes me laugh, but I'm not going to disagree with it.
Oh hey! Another not-video-video, this is supposed to be for your ears and not your eyes, but I guess "podcasts" of newsletters and videos are all melting into one now anyway. Share and Enjoy.
Sadly parts of the world are on fire. I won't go into politics here except for one tiny thing Arts has been seen as a left-wing hobby, at least in The Netherlands. So be it. If we don't spent time on making art, looking at art, enjoying art and have an income from art any more it would make me very very sad. For me art enlightens, brings creativity, let me forget the burning world for a moment in time. So let's keep making, loving and promoting art.
Ah, I didn't keep a record of the Monday music. It's one of the tracks from Epidemic Sounds where I get all the music from, it'll be something like "Upbeat generic rock track 12" I expect. I wipe the source files once I've exported and uploaded a video. The stapler is this one here: amzn.to/45TjT2t the Bostitch booklet stapler.
I do hope the studio stuff will be sorted and takes the pressure of. Thanks to Kitty's persistence you did a lot more than you thought. So Kitty is a great addition to your workflow. There' sone thing that comes to mind, you plan things and do you leave gaps where you can do nothing or anything you want. It stimulates creativity having blocks of time with no obligations. The jury duty messed up your planning and scheme, luckily that done now I presume.
Didn't quite manage to make a comprehensive quarternotes this time, but I didn't let that stop me from uploading something (although perhaps it should have!)
Hey @revdancatt , I would love to see this video when available. Any thoughts on timing? Would also be great if you were open to sharing your code. I just got married and plan to use the idraw plotter to create handwritten thank you cards. Having something with a little more realism than the "easy" way would be absolutely incredible. Thanks
