Antron does not have guard hairs Cam .I'm looking for the Antron in your blend and I can't see it .I have a 12 colure dispense kit and the colure I think you may have used is Ginger variant , with a ginger hair line mix? The head is like a elk hair caddis.

I've just tied up a bunch of X Caddis for the Summer. Some old style, some Improved ( X2 ). I did the White Miller version last. I thought I was done. Now I have to add this one to the list. I blame Bucky... ;-)
Yo Bucky, I love fishing soft hackles in general, in Colorado as well as on the Madison. I'm wondering why you think they are so effective? Is it because at the end of the drift, or during the swing, they move into the current like an emerging bug might so that life-like movement triggers the take? I have caught fish with a dead drift approach but the swing or "hang" at the end of the cast is much more effective for me unless I drop my fly right on top of a feeding fish. I tried the same pattern with a different video using hook 16-18 and was way to difficult ,when I saw your video I guessed hook size and banged off 6 of your pattern on a size 14 with no problems . Thanks
Sweet little soft hackle. I've been having some excellent luck with a very similar soft hackle pattern on stillwaters the only difference being a thorax of dubbed UV pink Ice Dub. Something about that UV pink that has some magic to it on soft hackles.
Reminds me of a U.K. stillwater pattern called a Diawl Bach that has many variations, but Driscoll's looks like more realistic chironomid imitation. Wondering if you Blue Ribbon guys have ever tried the U.K. "washing line" technique on Hebgen. I'm looking forward to trying it out next visit, fishing it over and between weed beds for callibaetis early and later in the day when the dry fly action is slow.

Size to fit your local midges. Generally, from about #18 down to the smallest you can tie. IF you want BRF's actual recommendations, best just to go to their web site, find the pattern you want to tie, and see what sizes THEY tie it in for the shop. Can't really go wrong that way. (Shops don't stay in business long if their fly bins are full of sizes that aren't productive and sell.)
