Those are real finds. I was unaware alcohol stoves have such a history. Can you imagine a company manufacturing those ion the east and west coast before air or train travel? Even telegraph was spotty. Sparks the imagination, doesn't it?

..That sir is a nice forge. Have you case hardened them in a container with some carbon material in a fire place/stove?
@mountainghost4523
@mountainghost4523 11 месяцев назад
Thank you, it’s definitely a good forge. I haven’t really played around with different ways only to use a crucible with the kasenit in a campfire and also hot oil dipping which takes 2 heats and the second heat is dipped in room temperature water until the item is cool. They both work but the way I do it is quick and efficient for the time that I have. I’m always looking for cool ways to do things especially historically correct ones.
@mountainghost4523
@mountainghost4523 11 месяцев назад

I've acquired 2 of the Whitall Tatum pocket stoves and have decided the base and pot stand are worth their weight to carry - one for the backpack, and one for the day hike bag. Ultra light has no value when your pot tips over, and this one is solid! But instead of the burner I use solid fuel or the Pillbottle stove. Still under 6 oz.

Back when these were made gasoline didn't have all the additives it does now white gas is the gasoline of the 1940s to 1960s or so except no lead. Using white gas is the proper fuel in reality and much safer for you because it doesn't release as many toxins. Also, although I haven't gotten to inspect one of these in person, according to pictures and other videos didn't these come with a plug for the burner coil to prevent gas leakage?
