Don't need to watch this video to know why living in a van is not for most people. First and foremost, a van by design is not meant to be lived in. Even a RV whose design is to be lived in but it's at most for temporary living as a recreational vehicle.
I've been living in a standard sized van for nine years. If you (the general, universal "you") have to keep moving stuff around in order to access your other stuff, you're badly organized or you have too much stuff-or both.

Its been a long time since this video and if anything, similar lists out there have grown longer. It seems people are not finding solutions. One thats common is frequent change of scenery. Many people vanlife FOR the travel and change of scenery but also suffer its mirror, that one is always picking up and going instead of settling into a place, getting to know it, getting used to its vibe, where things are located like food, gas, etc. You are always re-hunting down those things and it gets to be a tiring weight on the shoulders. Im not pro or con here, just saying thats one that keeps coming up on lists.
Yeah my top one for agreement is sleep disturbances/getting used to sleeping environment, showering and laundry. Hope to get warranty for any potential repairs to engine or transmission. Thanks for your video legacy.
Finding a spot to boondock gets tougher with all the videos about it over the years, not to mention how many people that don’t like the idea of seeing people sleeping in their vehicles are becoming more aware of it, that’s a huge bummer! As far as everything else it’s definitely some getting used to, lots of practice for sure but definitely doable! In my opinion if you’re driving a clunker, stay close to a town for repairs until you know for sure it’s not clunking anymore 👍😂
Thanks for making the video. All I’ve been hearing on RU-vid is how great van life is. Many pros no doubt. But you’re right on the spot about the con. Many of us just don’t realize there are basic necessity in life. Shower, clean cloth, safe/quiet living and power. Oh, yes, a girlfriend lol. Good truth video about van life. Thanks.
I know I probably don’t get any votes for the way I live when I’m in my van but I was going into gyms to shower and use the bathroom. When we got closed down, I lost my shower. I sleep in economy hotel parking lots, I have a key that can open hotel doors. My little boy and me will sneak into a far room and use just the shower, we bring our own soaps, towels and shampoos. We are in and out in 20 minutes.
Hey bud..nice vids..sorry it wasn't for you..but..I think your problem was lack of imagination n creativity (nothing personal)..I have a 2006 econoline..with much LESS accoutrements than yours had..mainly a comfy bed..table and MOST IMPORTANT a big comfy leather rocker swivel recliner positioned in front of my swing out double doors AND a 42in swivel flat screen tv..but that's JUST for use while I'm hanging out in it..my attitude is I live in a big beautiful country..because I also pull a custom light 10ft by 72inch light aluminum trailer which address probably at least 5 or 6 of your negatives..on the trailer is my 2019 Harley TRIKE..which I ride all around the countryside..ESPECIALLY the mountain twistys..with my pooch hanging on the rear passenger seat..I think he likes it more than me lol..mounted next to that is a 10ft kayak for fishing n a little white water fun..behind it is my ebike for riding to town n exploring..AND have a reg 10 speed bike next to it..and have about 4 huge securely mounted diamond plated (same as trailer) aluminum storage boxes for ALL kinds of stuff..tools, clothes, kitchen utensils n cooking, bbq, ninja cooker lol..everything one would need. On top of the front storage box is my 3500watt generator, n behind that is my dish TV bubble antenna..also, for driving entertainment, I installed a super latest alpine system with SIRIUSXM satellite radio..best thing ever..can listen to all news channels, politics, religion, sports, politics, great music ALL across the country with no reception problems. I mostly stay in rv parks and when I feel the need, motel it..when I boondock, I can rent a storage space for the trailer, n the white non descript van fits it anywhere nicely..I also have a planet fitness membership for showering n working out..so, in essence..I'm happy you are where u wanna be now..but if you ever travel again..think on this..good luck..oh lets you think all that is expensive, well the trike is the big $ item..$40k..but there are other motors used, for much less..the van I got a super deal..$4500..only 124k miles..runs like a top..all the other junk, trailer kayak ebike etc..probably like $5k..just putting it out ther..later
a lot of people have a lack of space in their van cause of all mods, furnitures and stuff they put in there. Cause normally, a van is perfect for carrying lots of stuff.
At home I have a woodshop, cnc, welder, 3d printer, laser cutter, art studio, airbrushing studio, electronics lab, stereo cabinet, arcade cabinet, cd collection, movie collection, book collection, computer station with multiple computers and three monitors, console gaming area, and a bunch of other hobby related storage (telescope, metal detector, remote controls, drones, etc).... Hobbies are not particularly conducive to van life. I love the idea, and have some wanderlust, but there's no way I could pare down all of these to fit in a van comfortably...
Real Chill man I used to buy way too much food. Been out here for yrs. gotta say most thing along the way usually irons themselves out. Actually you've got it faded... Take it easy!

Buy a low mileage van in xlnt condition. I paid $550. Drive it only when necessary. I drove 4,300 miles in 2019. Equip it with a fine bed, radio, lighting and custom shelving below the bed. Never live in a non-Hightop van. Think before you do, act, buy or travel...most people don't. Be exposed only to minds that inspire you, especially those of greater intellect than you possess. Don't believe the sad tales of fellow vagabonds. Buy only deeply discounted cast-offs. Thrift stores, eBay and Wal-Mart sales.
I live in a room that is 7x10 and I don’t need any more space I like it just fine! I’m a lot older I’ve had spacious places and I’m tired of everything that goes with it!
Been living in my van 2 years love the freedom to move when I want or need to. no mortgage or rent eat out alot wich I dont mind someone else cooking for me parked at walmart but also parked at lakes ,parks awsome places I'll take van life anyday much more work living in a house wich you never really own anyway.keep at it things will get better it's like anything takes getting use to but it's not for everyone I guess good luck to you.i also was a cdl driver of 20 yrs makes it easy for me use to it.
