Nice to see how long filmic storytelling has served to shine a mirror to societal injustice. Not so nice to see how little has changed in 119 years. The greed of the bourgeoisie is still forgiven and forgotten while the desperation of the proletariat is still harshly and indifferently punished.

When Jesus was born by Mary, He's already manifested in flesh that's why Jesus is not a man but He's a God because He is the Son of God

I looked this movie up because the opening scene 2:40 is filmed in my hometown of Wadsworth NV. I recognized the street immediately. The houses are still there, and the church in the top left corner is still being used. Crazy!!

There is something absurdly touching about an attempt to make an 8 minute film out of Don Quixote! If anyone at that time could have done it successfully it certainly would have been the Pathe super trio Zecca/Nonguet and Chomon!

It might be a little harsh to critique and Early Film for its effects and sets, but the Painted Wall that basically represents the Doctor's Office is a little 'Too Fake' like a High School Play Level set. Over in George Melies' films Yes there were MANY Painted sets and they resemble more elaborate theatre plays which is probably where this decision to make this 'Painted Doctor's Office' comes from. But Keep in mind: At this point we were starting to see Live Action on Location Filming in Streets, Buildings that Directors could get, and Forests. So comparing this film to Cinema of the Time this Painted Building is rather 'Low Budget' and middle of the Road.

My great grandfather was on the NYPD during this period and wore the uniform depicted. He also saved an 8 year old boy from drowning in the Hudson River off of Bloomfield Street, so the water rescue was interesting to watch. Were these scenes filmed in New York by chance?

Having read the Scott Eyman biography, and other sources about the director John Ford my opinion differs a little from some of the comments. Yes. love his better pictures (he had a few mediocre films too in a very long career) as cinematic triumphs. This film is an impressive start. But the man himself? Do some reading. He is a classic example of LOVE THE ART, separate it from the artist. His cinematic art stands out in his more memorable films. Admire and respect that.
