@@RunningWithSewingShears Oh, I did get COVID as well…later. I’d had the vaccine by then so it wasn’t too bad. Thank goodness. Glad you made it through. Cheers!
Thank you for visiting the page. The Fulton Mall is gone now. They tore it out and put a road in. It cost millions to do so, but downtown still remains dead…despite Fulton being a road again. I no longer live in Fresno/Clovis either. I do miss a lot of it, too. Cheers!
I remember visiting the mall with my family right after completion. This video captures the memory perfectly. In 1976 I got a job on the Fulton Mall working for Shelburnes Office supply. At that time most of the major retailers had pulled out. The best part of my job was when I would hand deliver office supply orders on the mall. It allowed me to enter a lot of the old buildings many of which were closed to the public. Many of these building still had their marble lobbies and antique fixtures. Then, again around 2016/2017 I had an office on the 9th floor of the Guarantee building. It still had the marble and original fixtures in the mens restrooms. The quality of work put into those buildings in the old days was remarkable.
Thanks for leaving the comment. I remember going to the mall as a kid, but not visiting it much afterwards until I got a job at Gottschalks downtown in the mid-1980s. All that was left then was the Woolworth's (which I believe closed down while I was there.), JC Penney's (which also became a casualty around that time), Orange Julius, and a Fredrick's of Hollywood (!!!!). It's too bad they couldn't find a way to revive the mall---shopping on the bottom/residential above. Instead the city speny millions to rip it all out--and it still has not helped businesses down there.
@@boinnng Orange Julius! I forgot about Orange Julius. lol. Shelburnes was just acrossed the mall from it. I ate my lunches there almost daily. I had a very bad addiction to the Orange Julius drink. Thanks for a pleasant memory.
A 1966 Mercury Park Lane 2 door hardtop. Base engine was a Marauder 410 CID @ 330 HP. Available power plant was a 428 CID Super Marauder @ 345 HP. Either engine would have really moved. In 1965 the top end engine was a Super 427 CID V8 rated at 425 HP at 6000 RPM. Ah the good old days.
I'm not Joshua Tehee. He was my co-worker for a time many years ago and that's him singing the song. I have no idea if he has relatives in Oklahoma or not. Sorry.
@@diane1390 At one time they wanted to turn it into a live/work area...with housing on the upper floors of the old businesses and retail at mall level. If they wanted to bring back downtown, I don't know why they abandoned that plan and just tore it out. No vote...you are right. Sad.
I remember the blinding light of the 8mm movie camera. My brothers and I would have to wait at the top of the stairs until Dad got out of the bathroom which seemed took an eternity! So much excitement at Christmas time for us kids and I'm glad had his camera to capture moments of it!! Thank you for sharing!
I'm glad my grandmother's home movies stirred those memories for you. Are these home movies of yours on here somewhere? Ho ho ho! Have a great holiday season. CHEERS!
I have no idea. I was the little kid then and there's nothing else in the footage to indicate what it was. But it looks like booze of some sort to me. Thanks for visiting. Cheers!
Seeing this brought back memories, on a Sunday after church or on the weekends when school wasn't on, or after lunch at the restaurant this is where I would go and play bowling, it was fun and old school, I was too young to go to the bar (of course not) but looking back it was like a film played in my head of the memories I had with the place. Thank you Cedar Lanes Fresno. For a Memery well shared....
i visited fishermans wharf wax museum (and chambers of horrors) in 1972 before the renovation in the late 90s...and was petrified of the FWWM CoHs as an 8 year old!!
I remember the place before the renovation as well. I loved the fairytale area as a kid that was just past the first hallway. The Chamber of Horrors was awesome. The museum was so much bigger/nicer than the cramped basement space they used after the remodel. Too bad... Thanks for posting your note. Cheers
It’s crazy sad to see this place closed!! I have been eating Sam’s burgers for 35 years weekly!! As a kid I remember getting a burger and fries for $5. Sam’s had always set the standard for any other Burger I have tried. My family and I have come to the conclusion that the flavor of Sam’s burgers must of had to do with the griddle and possibly the order of ingredients placed in the bun especially the shredded lettuce. There is one place that reminds us of Sam’s burgers but is definitely not its Snow white burgers in Aptos. Thanks for the video and bring all the Sam’s burger Fans A place to grieve. Lol ✌🏽🤟🏽☯️
I am so sad that Sam's is gone. I was just there visiting a few weeks back and seeing Sam's vacant and fenced off was such a bummer. Thanks for visiting the page and leaving a note. Cheers!
I was born in 2002. Seeing that this was from 2009 brought nostalgia back to me and made me feel I was back in 2009. It’s sad to see how the park is now compared to 2009. Storyland has just been dead and I really hate the fact that they got rid of the Alice in Wonderland Maze, Winnie the Pooh attraction, not being able to go up the castle, and a few other stuff. The park may not be the same now, but in the end Storyland will always be in my heart forever. It’s one of the remaining places where when I do go it’s like I’m a kid again. But, thank you for this awesome video. It’s great that there’s footage from 2009.
Things do change... But I am with you in my feelings of loss over how Storyland has declined over the years. I'm glad you like my old video though. I appreciate your leaving a comment. Cheers!
The woman in the green dress sitting on the man's lap looks like she could be an identical twin sister of Jo Ann Worley from Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In.
Thanks for visiting the video. I had forgotten the turtles, but remember so much of the other stuff. It's too bad Fresno just made it a street again instead of revitalizing the mall as a live/work community (shops on bottom-housing above). Oh well...
At 3:05 your grandma pulled over on southbound Interstate 25 looking west, pannning. They took the next exit at Lomas and descended toward downtown. Amazing shot of Lomas. I am way too young to have ever seen it looking like that, and I have literally been up and down that stretch a million times! Cool how you could just pull over off the Interstate back then. I do remember that!
That would be kind of neat. I do have vague memories of going to the Fulton Mall in the 70s, but back when it first opened would have been very interesting. Thanks for visiting the video. Cheers
Its great looking back to the good old days when we appreciated what we got for Christmas they were the best days not like nowadays when its all greed wish i could go back to the good old days
I'd love to return to a more innocent era as well. I liked being a kid for the most part. So much ahead of me... Now that future is mostly gone. And I so miss the people who are no longer here. Cheers
The Joann Whirley look alike, sitting on that guys lap, I have a feeling he is shipping out after the first of the year to that place called Vietnam. Westmorland and Johnson say it will be over in a year. He'll be home for next Christmas.
No, my uncle did NOT go to Vietnam. He did "disappear" for a number of years though, reappearing in the early/mid-70s. Faux Joann Whirley and he divorced. I don't know what happened to her, but my uncle has since died (cancer).
@@Wa3ypx As far as I know (I was very young...as you can see in the movie), no. But I think he just disappeared into the whole late 60s counter culture for a while. He was very "hippie"-esque the rest of his life.
Thanks! I have seen this. Somewhere I have a home movie of the Fulton Mall's grand opening. Of course, the Fulton Mall became nothing more than urban blight itself, with empty store fronts, etc. It no longer exists. They put Fulton street back in.
Thank you for your comment (and Merry Christmas, by the way....for a few more minutes, anyway.) How nice of you to say you like them. I' slowed down making my videos because I went back to nursing school and became a nurse. And then I developed a neuro-muscular disease. So now, like is pretty difficult for me. BUT--I have a plan for the next Fake Jan Day video. Stay tuned. CHEERS!
If I ever get the chance to go back in time it would be the 60s . Merry Christmas to all of you . Don't mind this pestilence, it's just for a season . GOD has plans for us ,not to hurt us ,but to give ever lasting life . More abundant then we have ever seen . The question is are you ready ?
