PCA is electric to watch!! Wish I was able to see him as a Smokie. I will say the Cubs are going to have amazing team in the next few years we need to be watching Cam Smith he’s moving up fast.

His defense is so good he really just needs to be an average hitter to be playable. He'd be good for 2-3 WAR per season with just his defense in CF even if he only put up like an 80 OPS+.
That's true, but for our #1 prospect and hopefully CF of the future, I'm hoping he can be an average hitter, meaning 100 OPS+, 20% worse than league average would hinder our lineup.
Of course, just saying the floor is very high for PCA even without a bat, so I'm not really worried. Of course I'd love for him to hit 150 OPS+ every year. I could see him falling into a leadoff hitter role.@@isaiahjbuse
I hope so. Every hitter generally comes up with some swing flaws and discipline issues. I think he doesn't have much of a discipline issue, more of a swing plane one.
No doubt about the power in Michael Busch's bat. I'm really hoping he takes advantage of his chance with the Cubs and emerges as a .250, 25+ hr guy with solid enough defense.
I think he has upside than Hamilton. For one, his defense is far superior. I also think his plate discipline is better than Hamilton's. I would almost see his floor being like a Kevin Kiermaier.
Baseball is weird sometimes, and can be virtually impossible to make predictions but if his career so far has anything to say about 2024, it should be a decent one. He has an off year after every good year and 2023 was an off year…
Im always nervous initially when NPB players come to the MLB. They have alot to adjust too and the pressure can be high. But i do like this deal and I like his stuff. Good video, please make more
Yeah, the Cubs needed to make a deal and I would consider this a bargain, so it's worth the risk. I appreciate the support! There is a video on Jameson Taillon coming out Wednesday!
@northside9 fantastic! I would love a break down on him. And yes the deal is good. 4 years is acceptable. If he tanks after 2 years I'm sure we could move him and get something
Imanaga is the Japanese Lance Lynn 😂 his strikeout rate is above average, but he gives up a bunch of HRs... and that was in the NPB. What do you think is gonna happen when he now has to pitch to the best hitters in the world? 🤣😅
There is definitely room for skepticism, but I think his unique pitch shape/deception alongside his above average carry will help his fastball succeed. The sweeper and splitter will play well off of it.
4 Lefties. Smyly is a 3era Sp the 1st half the year and Wicks i doubt they take out of the rotation after proving he belongs in it. Tailion ar 17mil is an issue. He could he the high 3era guy, but w/Smyly you know you got low 3 the 1st half and can go to Ben Brown or Horton the 2nd half
Yeah, I think the rotation right now would go Steele, Imanaga, Taillon, Hendricks and Wicks. Smyly will work long-relief out of the pen. Ben Brown and Cade Horton are two that will definitely be impact guys, Brown more so in 2024 and Horton more so in the future. Thanks for watching and appreciate the comment!
@@isaiahjbuse Smyly tho always being very good the 1st half....I would ride that, flip him for whatever we can get at deadline. If Tailion had a 3era the last 15, I hope he comes in ready. Changing teams, especially Wrigley can throw guys off. 💯 Really like Assad. A lot. Zambrano like. Also like Wicks. Both are Tier 2 prospects. Next 2 coming are Tier 1. Jed can build. Our OF prospect depth is insane. Pry why they brought ol boy from Houston. He develops IF very well.
Yeah, I think we'll win division in '24 and be contenders for the next few years. Wouldn't be against flipping Smyly, but I say don't waste games giving him starts, let someone else get established.
I wish this was true, but my research shows that he throws 3 plus pitches (the splitter is about average, but probably a slightly plus pitch). The rest are definitely not good enough. However, there is the chance for him to change his cutter to more of a slutter to use against righties, giving him another option and 3-4 good pitches.
@@isaiahjbuse They way he can run in on guys and it sinks/cuts should jam alot of bats. Way it runs out should get alot of Ks. Also good up down Slurve movement. I go off tape so idk exactly what he's throwing. Some are so similar. Split/Sink/2 seam all very similar. I really like the pickup especially for the price. 3 plus Pitches is an All Star usually so...even if your right we got a steal. And Cubs have been good at adding and tweaking stuff for guys. His up down is Stromanish, We are not talking Kershaw. But even there... I'm guessing 2era through 1st half but he runs out of gas year 1. Long year last yr plus Japan is shorter. Good thing we have Young SPs who can step in. 💯
Not last year, because his approach changed for a higher obp. In previous years, he was looking to do damage, when he wasn’t leading off so frequently.
I've seen him play here in Tennessee at the Smokies often. He is a clutch batter. He has a good eye, I think he never had enough time to adjust. He will be fine. Plus you have to get rid of the ball quick cause he has wheels. Maybe not Hamilton speed, but he's rushing the throw. More consistent playing time and he will settle right in. I'm not worried what so ever.
I saw the same thing when he was in South Bend. It seems he starts slowly as he moves up a level but then settles in and becomes a weapon. He needs consistent ABs, which he didn't get last year in September.
I’d REALLY love to see a throwback hitters mentality. Hitters now strikeout WAY too much and are sacrificing hits for HR’s & stupid launch angles that don’t mean anything. Get back to hitting balls the opposite field and taking the 1st pitch & you’ll surprisingly see his stock go way up
Yeah, I think he would benefit from being a patient hitter who values getting on base. That would complement his speed and defense. Would love for you to watch my most recent video on Justin Steele! Go Cubs!
Solid video! I’m not too worried about PCA. He didn’t even have that much consistent playing time nor enough opportunities to adjust. Rossy wasn’t the greatest at developing hitters. He was a great people person but was unable to help PCA and Mervis form a hitting plan and execute. Counsell should be better at developing our young talent while maximizing our vets.
Yeah, I agree for sure! I think he can be a decent enough hitter that his defense and speed will make him an above average player. Thanks for watching, would love for you to check out my most recent video on Steele and leave your thoughts!
Hey Mike, thanks for the feedback! Somebody else mentioned this, so I have used a more readable version in my most recent two videos. Would love for you to check them out!
Yeah, for sure. As of right now, he's not necessarily a true ace. But, he's right on the cusp and a couple more years like 2023 will put him in the discussion for a CY Young award.
I thought after the 9 inning pitch that strowman would be a god the rest of the season turns out I was wrong. Steele was the best pitcher on the cubs in 23.
For sure, they were both playing so well the first half, I couldn’t decide who the ace was but I thought Stroman. I kind of knew he wouldn’t be around in 2024 though, unless they made a convincing run. Regardless, this game was a masterpiece.
Dude was a friend of mine in high school I remember when he told me he had the possibility of being drafted out of high school I thought he was full of it I even told him let me try to hit a ball off him he said he was gonna hit me because I’m a lefty 😂
