Thanks so much. I have watch john martyn play this many times and never really got the vibe because i can't play like him. Thhe way you play it is simple and has all the good stuff . So really thanks.
YOU FOUND YOU CALLIN MAN! You really know how to connect to people - very genuine and very well done with humming the cords BRILLIANT way to teach the dummies like I can be!! Just brilliant. I look forward to your other videos. luv it!
Most excellent sir.....just checking in to make sure i have been playing it correctly all these years ......i have been! This was a great straight forward instructional video ......i subscribed to your channel
Nice work Arran, love the pull offs on the D chord chiming arpeggio, sounds cracking and you voice suits that song really well. Always thought John always sounded off his head when playing this tune, haha. One little point, did he use dropped D on the E string to use as a drone note ..... anyway brilliantly executed..... cheers
Thanks for this! Yeah the story goes that they'd recorded the whole album and the version of this had drums and full band and wasn't quite sitting well. John went back down into the studio at 3am (definitely wasted) and laid down this masterpiece in one take. I made this video during lockdown for people who might want to learn guitar and also if they might want to sing over it. The actual version John plays is much more complicated and almost impossible to sing over as voice and rhythm are seemingly completely independent. I believe all his strings are heavily dropped with the low E down to a D (but then everything lower still if that makes sense) Then he plays with a capo on three or four. I'm planning on doing some more videos soon so will try and include some for higher levels!
Brilliant, best version I've found on line, my granddaughter is going to be very happy once I've got some fluency at it, many thanks to you Sir for taking the time to put this up and binging happiness through music.
