Dudes! Such a memory influx going on right now. I remember Anthony in '13 was (technically) auditioning against me for the new "4th" quad spot in 7th's quadline after I switched over from the '12 snareline. I knew Anthony was going to be a force to be reckoned with in the coming years. '13 quadline was an amazing ageout - thanks for the memories Bryson. If you ever want another podcast guest, I'd love to share my experience marching as a new guy on both snare initially and then quads under your leadership at 7th. Awesome times. Hope you guys are both doing well! -Nate "Ghostface Killah" Gomes
Ivan Trevino's compositions are some of my favorites, especially this one and Catching Shadows, but they definitely scare me a little lol. I could never master Stevens grip and hand independence well enough for them. Great job you two!
Nah! Stevens feels pretty good once you get used to it. I wouldn’t say our technique was amazing though haha. We both marched quads in drum corps so our hands were pretty brutalized ahead of time 😂. This tune was more of a lesson in mapping out dynamic shaping ahead of time, and making intuitive joint decisions in the moment.
At first, I thought it was just one guy standing in diff areas of the frame performing both parts, with some mad editing and splicing skills😂 Great performance!🙌🏼
Not sure you got it all, but most of that was probably intentional, and DAMN sure I wouldn't even THINK about making the attempt! So kudos, and it sounded pretty darn good. I'm impressed, I wonder if Jacob has seen it? Pretty sure he would like it, too, he seems to really like anything anyone does that is creative, and this definitely fits that bill.
I've been using this recording to play along to almost constantly this summer. Every other day I'm running the piece and it's a difficult one for me and my experience, but you guys make it sound worth it to keep it going. The reverb is satisfying and the phrasing and tempo is all in a great place and I haven't gotten tired of the recording yet after maybe 100 plays or more rewinding and replaying in spots to get everything right when I don't read music as confidently as I listen. Thanks for keeping me in the game to finish this piece for my senior recital next year! I hope the both of you continue playing wonderful things in the future!
