Never has a slide whistle felt so right than during the second half of The Trench Coat Museum. Thought it was a sample at one point, and I didn't even realise it was being played live until the camera panned round to one of the back-up singers going absolutely ham. What a set and what a rush watching the lads from Leeds play these bangers live.
I cannot stand the stooges, iggy pop. I understand the aesthetic of their garbage influenced the greatest band ever, ever to be, etc. Thurston obviously wouldnt have written what he did without his listening history. Its like an extreme opposite end of the spectrum that run dmc inhabits compared to epmd. We simply wouldnt have epmd without erick and parish listening to run dmc, or sampling the only good parts of some godawful parliament and james brown music. Run dmc were genuinely listenable. Iggy pop appeals to simpletons, black flag logo tattooed, germs t shirt wearing "i used to be a punk rocker" types, but was a necessary speedbump (mogul perhaps) for some of the greatest artists ever. Sonic youth were the greatest ever, the very best band in history. I could find ten people whod say stooges and pop were, maybe 2 that know the truth.
