You need to keep the guard on... especially working on heavy steel.. Thin discs explode pretty easilly.. But hey... eye replacements are cheap these days... 😂
It is a compound angle you need a 59 degree angle to the blade but you also need about 12 degrees to relive the cutting face of the bit. Cut off wheels are not made to take a side load like that. Sharpening freehand on a bitch grinder is not hard.
