Love how he leaves out the years of Muslim conquest in the Middle East totally not biased Emperor Alexius just felt like fucking with Muslims totally not biased 👍
This dlc ruined it for me. I just started the game and was playing through it bout 6 hours in and I get told to go thank her and she asked if I wanna hear her story and bam I'm in a 6 hour long side quest playing this stupid waste of space I don't care bout.
The only time I ever play Sekiro, if I ever do, will be with a trainer on to one hit everything and give me invincibility. I'm not playing learn to parry, the video game. I suck at parrying and I'm not about to rage for hours just to experience a game.
Many thanks! Did you go to the V&A in London for the sculptures? Yeah it is definitely good that she people never get any power. Too bad that it happens occasionally.
Ah cool. Funny even though I live in London I haven't been properly to a museum or gallery for some time now. Maybe I should go and explore more again. Cheers!
Read it 10 years ago and, no offense, but it's a really mediocre book. It was enjoyable, but absolutely nothing remarkable in it. I struggle to figure how it got such a huge hype.
When you say the person being mugged did not choose to give the money, well! Yes he did. The other option was to fight back and risk injury. He did what he wanted most and that was to survive. Every decision we make is what we want most. So we don't have freewill.
I'm currently listening to Determined and it just so happens that Homo Deus is next on my reading list so I had to laugh when you compared the relationship between Sapolski's Behave and Determined to Harari's Sapiens and Homo Deus! I even thought of the comparison while listening to your review before you said it. 😄 As far as the issue itself, would you describe yourself more in the determism or free will camp? I'm in the former so perhaps in the choir he's preaching to. I enjoyed your review. Are you British? I'll still read Homo Deus in spite of any redundancy and even more interested in Behave based on your comments.
They’re all good books, and to be honest, if you really like the arguments and find it engaging hearing it from a different perspective, isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I just personally wouldn’t be as able to recommend someone read such a similar book. I’m going to be honest, I’m in the camp of awkwardly avoiding answering the question, I think it’s a balancing act, you need to have an appreciation for both sides; I maybe a bit more determinism than the average person in the population.
Sapolsky believes that free will doesn't exist, and therefore punishment as retribution is wrong and shouldn't be done. But if there's no free will, what could the words "wrong" and "shouldn't" mean?
Genetics being expressed live in your brain. So this semblance of neuronal excitement and inhibition occurring in multiple areas simultaneously create your unique conception and expression around the circumstances with regard to what is a wrong and a “shouldn’t”. It is also not fixed and can change for better or for worse (for a lack of better words) with time.
For me the only good thing about the the movie was Robert Downey Jr. His charisma was enough to bring at least some enjoyment for me. But that being said, the rest of the movie was just so boring and dull for me. Remember this is just my opinion and if you liked the movie good for you 👍.
Before you see this movie you need to see this movie. And that's not a good thing. Too much cutting between different time periods and events - from the school of "if it isn't confusing it isn't art". The bomb was big a disappointment - FFS - this a NUCLEAR explosion - where is the menacing mushroom cloud on the horizon? Obviously this was a small petrol explosion filmed close up. Oh - and the nudity was pointless - it seemed the object was just to shock the audience. In summary, 3 hours of non-linear, pretentious twaddle.
Nolan does it on purpose so that his crazy fan boys go and fork out loads of dosh on multiple screenings. That's why I refuse to see anymore of his films,, especially in the cinema. II saw the film when it came out and it was awful. Would have walked out, and I have never walked out on a film before, but kept on thinking 'surely soon it'll get better', but it never did. In my opinion the film was just dreadful, the dialogue, pseudo-scientific waffle, the protagonist's zero charisma, the villain was hammy and ridiculous and the villain's wifey was very annoying. I wouldn't give it more than 3 out of 10, and that's just for Pattinson.
I refuse to fork out any more of my money to see another Christopher Nolan film after the disaster that Tenet was. I only sat through that film because I had been dying to go to the cinema since the lockdowns, otherwise I would have walked out. I find most of his films hugely overrated, the worst of all being Tenet of course. His fanboys are in denial about him though, which makes me laugh. Anyway, just discovered your channel and have subscribed. 👍
Pretty much agree with everything you said except one thing. I wouldn’t consider it slower paced. It was actually really fast, but fast paced dialogue. Like in much of Nolan’s films, it feels like a lot of exposition.
ngl i kind of disagree with u saying that this movie is overrated. Its like saying the dark knight is overrated which it is not. The dark knight and Oppenheimer are in the top 3 best Christopher Nolan films. The score is great, the performances are great, cillian murphy is the stand out. Robert downey jr of course does a great job. The effects are beautiful. Its honestly a beautiful movie. 10/10
Quite honestly, I believe nobody needs Christopher Nolan. For me one of the the most overrated directors of all time, if not the most overrated one in fact.
Agreed, my favorite Nolan movie is The Prestige. Post 2010s his movies have been a meme of himself, overrated, over-convoluted, and he just tries to do too much. Interstellar didn't make much sense and was very self-indulging but it was still good as a visual treat. Dunkirk was actually nice but when you think about it there have been much much better WW2 movies. TDKR, Tenet, and now Oppenheimer have been straight up crap. I really have no idea why Oppenheimer, which is a biopic drama (and not say an action or a scifi flick) needed the non-linear plot and flashy fast editing, which makes it difficult to not only follow the story but also savor parts of the story and dialogue. It could have benefitted much more from a linear narrative and slower pacing and a greater focus on fewer characters. I can understand that Interstellar needs to be gimmicky since it's scifi fantasy, but why does Oppenheimer need to be that way. I think this is where Nolan falls short as a director, especially compared to someone like Scorsese. Nolan is trying to make different movies of different genres, but he is still making in the same 'factory'. Scorsese movies of different genres do actually feel different and aptly made for the particular genre (think Hugo, WOWS, Goodfellas, Silence, The Color of Money, etc etc). I really hope Nolan notices this and tries a linear and slow editing style of movie making.
Totally agree with you! That's why I refuse to see anymore of his films. He was truly having a laugh with Tenet, making it so hard to hear so that his fanboys would make multiple visits to see it. That he made the sound so awful on purpose for that reason, I will never forgive, so will never see another of his shite films again in the cinema.
Yup. pretty on point. I'm starting to be fed up with this trend of having 3h long movies. If the movie doesn't absolutely requires it, then don't. It is a pretty forgettable movie overall.
Sound design is good, Murphy is well cast, but the movie is simply between decent and good, not good, not excellent. Oppenheimer is a figure not everyone knows about, but if you studied or know history, you know who he is and the Manhattan Projects mandate/setup. In this sense, everyone is patting themselves on the back for watching an “Intellectual” movie about a more obscure man, when really, it’s an above average, long biopic about a guy most reasonably educated people know about.
I completely agree with your review. Nolan peaked with The Dark Knight and Inception in my opinion and ever since his films have been over hyped, full of themselves and sometimes convoluted. There also seems to be a lot of Nolan fan boys who think every film he makes is the best film ever and anyone who doesn't like his films must have low IQ and isn't smart enough to appreciate his movies.
Personally, I wasn't that keen on Inception. An alright movie but nowhere near as good as The Dark Knight. Or Memento. Interstellar put me off of him as a director permanently. It's an execrable film. So up it's own arse and sickeningly schmaltzy. A 2001 wannabe for overly sentimental idiots. Thing is I really, really liked The Dark Knight. It's my favourite comic book movie along with Watchmen and The Winter Soldier. I just don't get how the same director can make that and then go on to make Interstellar. Haven't watched any of his films since. I would watch em if I came across em so I haven't got to the stage where I am actively boycotting his films but I just have no interest in finding out whether or not his subsequent films are any good.
Nolan is not even a great director. Never was and never will be. I don't see what's so special about him. A visual master, yes. No doubt about that. But a storyteller? Not in the slightest. He hasn't done one single story that is in remotely intelligent enough to not insult me as a human being. He is a gimmick and makes gimmicky movies.
@@Leprutz People, unfortunately, don't connect the word "Storyteller" with Director. They get all artsy and say "Visionary" which is way too arbitrary.
I saw this movie today. I agree with you, though l thought the movie's music was almost comedic when overdone. I agree wholeheartedly that the explosions looked underwhelming and the fact that you don't see the victims takes away any emotional depth. I also agree this could have been a 2 hour movie, and it's quite possible the hype will die down rather quickly.
Totally agree with the music being overdone, it becomes repetitive and boring, and the tension is lost. Made me thing of Revolver by Guy Ritchie, although it's nowhere near as bad as that film.
I have beat every game Demon Souls Dark Souls Dark Souls 2 Dark Souls 3 No dlc Blood borne No dlc Sekiro I haven’t played Elden Ring I’ve hated Sekiro, game is to repetitive in combat with blocking bar . I was happy when that game ended
I've got game elite membership, purchased £109.96 worth of games today. Only got £5.03 back in points, which is 5%, scanned both my reward and elite QR codes with the game app. That's certainly isn't 10%, 10% would be £10.09. The £5 you get in points with the elite benefits, by purchasing selected titles, is obviously being deducted from points you would of earned. I've already made back the £36 in points so I'm not going to renew my elite membership when it expires.
