Haha as I'm watching your video and listening to this and hearing the voicings he's using I'm like... yes yes, hundred times yes! Haha. I've heard some of Tim's work before, but certainly not this piece. Thanks for covering it!
2:10 - Another little hidden riff that, to my chagrin, I only noticed a few weeks ago: Symphony of Destruction. How I missed this when I picked up Eye of the Beholder in 007 - Frigate I have no idea... Now I'm wondering what else you've hidden in other songs that I've not noticed... I know I commented on another, but looking back at your cover of Frigate, there was no comment (until I added one just now to someone else noticing the riff as well). 🤔
It's super close to SoD but it wasn't actually a deliberate nod, just happens to sound a lot like it! Yeah there are definitely a few out there that people haven't picked up on yet :D
My brither and I used to spot these "same song's with different styles" when we were young. In so many nintendo games they just cycle the same song on and on. Zelda is the perfect example. We played the songs on piano and changed on the fly
5:00 when your talking about the F-B interval, the name of the interval would be the _tritone_ an interval consisting of 6 semitones, or 3 whole tones, as the name suggests. In the context of a Lydian scale, it would be an augmented 4th. 7:20 WRONG!!! Song of storms in in D Dorian, as the chord structure follows a Dm-Em-F-Em, whereas if it were in minor, that would be a diminished E chord, which doesn’t sound right
Taking a step back to acknowledge that someone will always be better than you can be a really freeing feeling especially if you’ve worked very hard with little reward.
I couldn't agree more! Accepting your limitations can sound rough on paper, but in reality I feel like it grounds me more as a musician where I'm not trying to do things I physically can't, and getting frustrated with it. Frustration almost always leads me to alt+F4 whatever I'm doing at any given point. I also really enjoy the act of being able to truly celebrate great musicians, rather than feeling inferior from constant comparison. Freeing is absolutely the right word! :D
I’m waiting to see who actually DIDN’T know this. Lol Mario has been doing this for years and I love it. Mario Sunshine has some great mixes of its own song.
For some more crazy piano game covers that look like they're working with a couple extra hands, you should check out Purpleschala and Aqare. Aqare's cover of Gael's Theme from Dark Souls 3 is incredible, especially once phase 2 starts. Purpleschala just look for any song you're interested in, and her version will be amazing. Make sure to read her video descriptions and comments for inspiration and fantastic insight into her arrangements and process.
