@@MommaLakers I would call the 30lb plus fish a behemoth! for him the biggest lake trout before that was maybe a 22incher. Huge lake trout for him. I fish Flaming Gorge, so anything is Colorado is tiny comparing to those 20 to 30lbers. I’d never fish them on a fly rod as they’d snap the rod in half :D
Me too man, was one of the saddest day of my life when they said it was going to be nearly empty and fish salvage. Hope it returns to its greatness one day!
@@JimboTheMick check this out, I made a great plate right next to the lake a few years ago, mouth watering! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lrDrICxN7nk.htmlsi=K3RTTqktUGyCJQCC
We went to the canal today 9/22/24 and tried using these techniques for salmon and got not even a strike. We went to several spots on the canal as well as where it dumps into Shadow Mtn. Lake and there was no one else even fishing and the weather was beautiful. I can understand that maybe I don't know how to catch them but was really surprised no one else was even trying. Is it too early in the season for the canal?
@@garykline4800 it’s not time yet 2nd or 3rd week of October until end of November. Also you want to make sure to fish it when water moved a bit more :)
first you get Jerkbait second you cast Jerkbait where Brown trout lives third you catch brown trout. using the eye of the rod as a hook keep hurts whats left of my soul haha
That ain’t no Kokanee that my friend is a sockeye salmon, which is the same species as a kokanee salmon except sockeye salmon migrate out to the ocean and live there for a few years and then come back to freshwater. That’s why they look red.
Yooooo is this Prewitt??? Best lake around the plains for walleye and wiper!!! If this isn’t Prewitt(the boat ramp looks exactly like it haha) then you should definitely check it out!!
I have fly-fished at night for trout and I always thought the light would put them down and mess up your night vision. The headlamps don't spook the fish?
@@davewebb68 head lamps attract them because the mysis shrimp are white and almost glow with a light on them, its brown trout food so they naturally come right to it.
@@MountainStateAngler Ah okay that would explain it then. I have only fished with mice and large streamers at night for brown trout and we never turn on the headlamps. Could you use any nymph, like a rainbow warrior or hares ear with a headlamp and indy fishing or does it only work because of the mysis shrimp?
@@MountainStateAngler Awesome, thanks so much for the information! I really appreciate it! I don't think we have mysis shrimp here on the East Coast, but I am going to try it with other nymphs, maybe scud patterns.
