Yeah, I really don't like the idea of having to grab a stranger's phone to check their rules, or having a stranger grab my phone the same way. For that matter, it also means that the only way you could know what you're up against is to buy the codex (Ignoring the existence of Wahapedia and similar), so you're effectively going in blind against any army whose codex you don't own. Your arguments for why you _don't_ think rules should be freely available online had better be pretty darned compelling. For that matter, there have been times in my playgroup where we've been pressed for time, and we've basically had to say "Okay, we're gonna just play it this way, and will come back to this for an exact reading in the future" due to the number of times rules conflict. When that happens, I want to be able to see exactly what those rules are later on. Even if I get thumped by something in a game, and the player was using the rules correctly, I might want to research exactly where those apply so I can avoid them in future.
Just came to say that there have in fact been twisted metal games since the ps1. There was twisted metal black for the ps2 and a poorly received one for ps3 i think. Another one or two maybe. Just saying
It's a very niech hobby here in the UK, I used to paint models back in the early 90s and have kept my eye on it ever since I know the type of people who play the table top and it's those guys I feel sorry for, the worst thing that can happen to you is if your hobby becomes popular. American "trash" culture will ruin it for them and it's heartbreaking
The American pop culture zeitgeist has certainly become a strange beast. It's a topic worth kicking around, as it seems fandom after fandom has taken a bit of stick lately.
@@shanechastain-p6m no doubt at one one time it was untouchable loved around the world, movies, music and comic books. I would be very wary if I were gamesworkshop 40k is becoming very popular but popularity is very fickle and pandering to international audiences could end up destroying this wonderfully weird little pastime and the only people it will hurt are the guys who have spent decades of there free time making it what it is
Haven't seen the show but I'll continue to talk about how bad it is based on memes I seen..... Pair of windbags recycling other people's options. I have watched TROP and it is terrible and nothing like the source material but still???
This kind of badly researched tripe becomes facts to people because they don't know and can't be bothered finding out so they take a blokes ramblings on a podcast as gospel
Huh? This blurb is pretty typical pre-production stuff. This is just setting the boundries for the script pitching phase so we've still got 3-4 years production on this minimum. Saying anything at this point is WILD speculation at best. I feel like part of the community seems to just be hoping for bad news for anger clicks.
The issue with Coteaz's model is his proportions are terrible. Long thick legs, no waist, tiny head and short torso. He looks like a drawing we all did in middleschool before we learned about ratios. That aside, I'm excited to try out the new agents rules. Its a good opportunity as an Imperial player to team up some forces on our shelves for something new!
I'm gonna listen but I'll just say this right now. My nephews dad buys him all the ultramarines he could ever want. This includes imperial knight. I am dark eldar/eldar mixed forced. Obviously my odds against gulleiman and knight are slim. Any tips for the dark Eldar? Like do I just try to hold guileeiman with some melee units? Do I just run away from him? Lol. The knight too. I'm still collecting so I'm happy to pick up whatever I need. And I don't want to counter a titan with a titan I find them very dumb. Infantry or regular vehicle are my options.
Titans are actually a good deal smaller than people make them out to be. They do still tower over regular units, but the tallest of them would be akin to a sky scraper, not a mountain. Canonically, a Questoris Knight is only a little taller than an AT-ST (not counting the carapace guns) at around ten meters tall, and a Warhound Titan (the baby one) would stand roughly shoulder to shoulder with an AT-AT.
To an extent, yes, but also no. Anyone can figure it out. The problem is with the relentless rule changes. Rule changes are necessary, but look at the recent volume of changes for what is essentially 10.5e. I do believe the frequency is too much for most new players. It's difficult enough to start, but then we have not only changes to the base rules but also constaint changes to army rules. I LOVE my sisters army, but just as I was figuring out 9e, I had to wipe it all and start again. It's only really beneficial to the already devoted and seasoned fans.
been playing it for a long time. we used to add movement to everyone, to make it easier to engage, we gave squads the ability to fire heavy weapons at different units, although it did take a leadership check. We almost just broke down each unit, how many shots or what attacks if you move, charge, and just try to make it more streamlined. Some of the things are now in 10th edition, some are not.
It's just a bad game where going first is a huge advantage and balance doesn't even exist. It's not a game it's just a hobby so you can look at your cool painted miniatures.
It is way overcomplicated for what it is. There are other games that are honestly better, with rules summed up in 10 pages or so. Way too much extra stuff that isn't really needed in 40k. They had a much better and simpler rulebook 25 years ago that played faster and smoother with a lot less confusion and ambiguity. There are quite a few more factions these days, but that doesn't justify the amount of extra bloat that has been added to the game over the last 2 decades. There are a lot of people in our area that continue to play 2nd edition and just convert over the newer stuff as it comes out because it was so much easier to play back then and the rules were so much cleaner (except for maybe the hand to hand combat). They were also play tested a lot better and didn't need rules and points changes and updates every 2 or 3 months. They actually took the time to design, plan, and playtest things before codexs came out so that they weren't making entire books almost pointless a month or so after they came out. It was a much simpler time and better for the game as a whole to be honest.
It's a system designed for selling models, when they started really dropping point values and pumping army size it was blatantly obvious (3rd and 4th edition), and the manipulation of new overpowered rulebooks and then nerfs. The company could care less about making a good game. One page rules is an actual good game with good rules, and you don't have to worry about your units becoming useless!!
Welcome to the Shattered Legions brother. The Salamanders answer the call. Overall not great news in the dataslate for Salamanders, Eldar, or Custodes, but I'm excited to try them out. Especially the pivoting for some Tokyo drift grav tank shenanigans!
Surprised Clonegrim didn't come up! Fulgrim is such an interesting primarch who I think is more interesting as a loyalist. My big wishlist is for Snake Fulgrim to return and face a loyalist Clonegrim leading the Iron Hands as penance to his betrayed brother. PS: Helmetless Chaos marines? You are a masochist, so much so you should be running Emperor’s Children instead of Iron Warriors.
A few thoughts to consider on why people still play older versions of DnD, but not 40k. This also pairs into why 40k continues to skew into meta-chasing. 1. DnD is co-op, 40k even in the most casual sense is competitive. For a co-op game you only need 1 person with the rules and willingness to run it and you're set. For a competitive game you need to find a group of people all with their own armies and rules, which is made harder if you're not playing the same thing. So naturally play gravitates to the latest version of what's most popular. 2. 40k is not backwards compatible, but it is usually forwards compatible. My primaris Salamander army can't play against my brother's 3rd edition Ultramarines marines since no datasheets exist for primaris. He however we can play in 9th or 10th using legends rules for his units just fine.
I feel really bad for people who play 40k now and hadn't played anything prior to 8th edition. The game, lore and community isn't even remotely on the same level anymore.
Personally myself and my friend started at the tail end of WZ Nactmund / beginning of Nephilim and have been playing often enough in league games or random pick-up games via the LGS discord in Fairfield.
As a big fan of co-op shooters, I was hoping for some Darktide news. Still waiting for Total War 40k, we need a spiritual successor to the Dawn of War series. DoW 1 and 2 were some of the best entries into the universe ever created. Side note: locak group is twisting my arm to start a Star Wars Legion army. Any recommendations forvfetting started? Looking at CIS
Yes? I have been playing in my area since 6th edition, at two different game stores near a major city in the US. We have never had more regular players than we have had in 10th edition.
I have been in the hobby since rogue trader. In my area and groups here many have moved on to other games or hobbies. The constant change of rules, points, pricing and the like has had people gravitate away. I still keep tabs on it and try to keep up with the lore but definitely not as before in so many years past. The LGS don’t host anymore events and the 2 GW stores don’t have the attraction they use too.
Our local game shop has the right vibe and the game seems more popular than ever. Im lazy so i only play about 2 to 3 games per month but could be much more
I play it roughly every 2-3 weeks casually at an LGS. Wish it was more often, but finding time and displacing my army is a pain... I envy the card game players lol. We used to go for 2K points but for the least year and to help new players catch-up, we mostly just do 1K games.
Been playing since start 9th My eager for chasing the meta and buying / painting new armies has gone down I play 2 armies now with 1-2 games a week Really enjoy both the hobby and the gaming side Would say that my Warhammer have matured/settled as a hobby once I stopped meta chasing and buying all those new armies
Been playing for nearly 30 years, largely actively. Our group has moved to OPR due to 10th being a strange compromise between casual and competitive, it's too micromanaged and not very fun. 9th was, in my opinion, the most fun edition but having to write an entire A4 page of notes for strats, units and army abilities/modifiers for army lists was too much. GW actively hating their customers and turning towards ideology is also just not great to put money towards, so most've us have just stopped buying their stuff and are investing in 3D printing instead. Also the main scene in my country, in the capital, has moved from the massive main LGS to a community center, because most have stopped playing altogether. Is it dying? No, but the scene is changing and GW isn't keeping up, while they're trashing their setting.
I dropped 40k with the advent of 10th edition, because I disliked a lot of the changes from 9th to 10th and since I mostly played competitive games of 40k I think it was pretty obvious that not all factions would be anywhere close to an equal playing field at the start, so figured I'd stay out for 1 or 2 months then check back in and hope GW had ironed out the biggest balance issues and we'd start to see what direction they'd start taking the new codex books. I've been kinda checking back in whenever a major balance update or new codex for a faction that I'm interested in comes down, but so far I just keep comparing 10th edition to 9th edition rules and 10th edition comes out unfavorably pretty much every time to me, so I've stayed out. Probably going to be a while before I give 40k another go, as I also have big objections to GWs policy of just squeezing out every last dime out of their customers.
