I enjoy flying my 58 Baron, I can usually pull it back to between 20-22 gph total with around 165TAS at anywhere between 8&11,000ft. It’s also known ice certified. Never having flown a Diamond aircraft, I can’t make any comparisons but I don’t feel as it’s heavy on the controls or slow to react. The only comparison I can make is too a Piper Seneca 1 which is like flying a dump truck, lol. It’s kind of heavy on the controls and not exactly very sporty with the speed or performance as compared to the Baron. I would enjoy taking a flight in a Diamond one day just to see what the hype is all about.
This brings back memories. I must have done that flight from London to Port Huron 20 times in my cargo days. Would have been a lot easier with those G1000’s!
Haley, you stated that your new aircraft has a Hartzell prop but the video shows a McCauley prop at the 2:00 minute mark. Did you change props after recording this video?
Your plan to divert away from weather should have been implemented. You are the PIC. Consider advice of others who may have more experience but exercising a cautious flight plan should never be dismissed. The apparent CFIT of a helicopter carrying the Iranian President in mountainous terrain and likely foggy conditions was just another Kobe Bryant style event. Never let pressure to get somewhere be relevant.
