If you think you already know everything about studio equipment, you are probably right. But no one made reviews, tutorials and tests just as fun as i do. So take a look, it´s completely free! :D
If I connect the speakers to the line out, nothing is heard, but on the mixer the lights light up as if the mixer is receiving the sound from the PC, do you have any idea of the problem?
Had a Motu MKII back in the Day... Solid az..... Upgraded to an ensemble...... Love it! But , with Apple dropping FW Core Audio support with OSX12, ive been looking into a new I/O.. Was going to go RME, but I think youve just sold me on this.. Thanks.. Subbed.
Excellent review! I got these for 130 bucks and a pair of refurbished Bose NC700 for 180 bucks. I returned the Bose and kept the Edifier. They're just more comfortable to me and I like the sound better. Bluetooth connectivity was also a bit more stable compared to the Bose although not completely trouble free. Occasionally they drop connection for half a second or less and sometimes there's a tiny bit of static noise for a second or two. The Bose does this too but much worse even. Too bad we can't use LDAC and multi-point at the same time though. I use headphones exclusively with my pc (windows 11) but after turning LDAC on in the app and reconnecting the headphone to my pc they appear to reset to the default codec again. But I love how they sound so much & that combined with the relatively low price I'm just going to try to live with the imperfections.
Juts a note, even if it's designed for high-voltage mainly - 04:54 it looks like the transformer is not aligned with the PCB outline. Is that after you dropped it or was it potentially broken when received?
I have the multipattern versions sE 4400 and T2, which sound pretty much the same. They are both good on instruments but for percussive instruments I'd go for the titanium version, because of how it handles that. I also like the T2 (and probably the T1) on my own voice (spoken word). I like your review. sE has some great microphones 😊... (like the 2200, Z3300a, Z5600a II, Gemini II, ICIS, Titan, and even cheaper ones like the X1S or X1R) (Note that some of these are no longer available).
Proud owner of the 900 Pro X. They beat a lot of audiophile choices in terms of sound, and you need to go near the 500€ mark to pick up something that sounds as good as them overall.
Hey !Can you help me with a question since you know far more than me?I prioritize ANC and comfort and I have these options;(edifier WH950NB, sony wh750b, 1more sonoflow, anker soundcore q30 and space one)what option is better?you can sugest something else if you know
Hey, thanks for your trust in me! I can absolutely recommend the edifier wh950nb, they have a phenomenal battery runtime, better then average anc and offer anc also for the microphone while in a call. I tested this in my German review over here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9_G-kFO05jk.htmlsi=tRUJ84n_M8J3jxgs You could check the sound comparison and the microphone test. The soundcore also offer good anc, but only for listening, not for the microphone. Although the mic offers good quality audio for your conversation partners. (I'm not officially allowed to talk about that yet, but soundcore "could" present a new pro-series headphone soon... Maybe waiting a few weeks for that could be worth it! 🤫) The Sonys are also good at sound and anc, but a colleague has one of them and complains about connectivity problems when anc is on, which is weird... In deed i often recommend the edifiers, be it the 950 or even the 820nb ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-T65OU1hMz3U.htmlsi=NoRfz7Lj1ZbLCfDM ) if you're more on a budget. In deed I use my 820's for hearing protection in my wood workshop and they work exceptionally good for that, besides they do also sound great😅 I don't know the 1more ones, but i have the comfobuds from them, which are good in ear buds, still i can't tell anything about the ones you listed. The wh950nb would be my choice for bang for buck.
Great Video! Can you help me make a decision? Edifier WH950NB is on sale for 90 USD, while SoundCore 45 is available for 114 USD! In your opinion, which one should I purchase?
it's hard to believe that the sound test showed such a huge difference! The new model sounds 100 times better (as far as I can hear in my Marshall Maojr-lV ). thanks!
Brilliant video, love how you present, sub'd. The only "minor" complaint for my 828 is that the headphone amps aren't suited for my Sennhieser HD 650 (300 ohms).
@@micandcampro I went with Rupert Neve headphone amp using up a line out on the 828. One thing you didn’t mention, make sure any audio software (DP, Cubase, etc.) are set to use ASIO MOTU Gen 5 for Windows users.
What’s your opinion on these for recording vocals? I’m looking to replace my current headphones because my microphone picks up the output ALL the time 😑 thanks for your review
As others said. These are for high voltage isolation. I used them to connect sw debuggers etc to mains powered equipment. Ive seen laptops and desktops explode without one. Its a safety layer for yourself and your electronics
Good info. MOTU doesn't get enough praise from the RU-vid world, probably because they're not blanketing 1000 channels with things on the day or release. I had an 896HD for 18 years and they only stopped supporting it in 2021 or 2022. It was firewire, but was great. Really $1200 isn't expensive for high quality equipment. I came up in the days of 24 track tape machines that were $30k then. 4 track cassette recorders were hundreds of dollars.
Bought this interface the day of the release. I then purchased a mint condition Midas analog 32 channel console for the price difference of a RME interface with the same feature. Never had an issue!
Is there a smaller version with less I/O but the same versatility and usable as a mixer ? Ultralite mk5 looks kinda similar but I am a little bit worried about the dependency on an app. Would be nice if it was controllable over the midi standard.
At the moment i only have two tiny old Sony speakers connected via a arylic amp. My main speakers are the nubert nupro a600, a discontinued series of active monitors. I made a German review about them here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XPt4GI4Nv8A.htmlsi=6hS0XiC6AkB6p-zx
@@micandcampro Its funny, I am literally the only one who made up this joke a long time ago. Every time I hear the word MOTU, I think of motu cycle lol. Anyways thanks for responding! I own many M Audio Focusrite and E-MU audio interfaces. Never had a MOTU sadly. Maybe the big one I have the garage could count? It's not an audio interface though.
To my understanding the adat connectors are already included in the overall count of in and outs. And also the mic inserts are just inserts for the two microphone channels on the front and no input for microphones. Perhaps you can use the output of an external mic preamp to get it into the 828 through those return jacks. But that would interrupt the signal flow from the 828‘s own mic inputs. At least that‘s how my 828 (even if it‘s an older version) works. I have the older firewire versions from motu. And by versions I mean I also have an Ultralite mk3 which can be daisy chained with the 828 mk3 via Firewire in and output.
I think so too, you're right with the adat's! And the inserts can be used as mic ins (for dynamic mics at least) as long as nothing is plugged into the xlr on the front - also right 😊👍
What's it for? Good question. I see nothing in the 828, that isn't also in the older 828es. As a matter of fact, it lacks a few important features! The 828 comes with only USB2/USB3, on a USB3 connector. The 828 comes with BOTH USB2 on a USB A connector AND Thunderbolt. Will you ever need USB3 speed? Not unless you run audio channels in the hundreds. The 828es comes with a built in talkback microphone, which the 828 lacks all together! No need to waste a valuable Mic input, just for the talkback. In my opinion, the 828 is actually a downgrade from the 828es. Who is it for? Noone! Except maybe a couple of RU-vid reviewers, who gets something to rant about (without mentioning the downsides, lacking features, etc.).
I feel you! I never got around to test the 828es and it seems to be no longer available. Idk why was discontinued and if it also boasted Features like the iPad control function? Although you'll in deed never need USB-3 speed for audio i also think thunderbolt is in no way superior, so I personally don't mind USB-c as well as the lack of the second USB port... The (no longer existing) integrated mic is in deed a downgrade.
@@micandcampro Actually MOTU still lists the 828es on their site, with no indication that it's been disconinued. I still maintain that buying a 828es gives you a better interface, than the new 828 interface. You'll have to scroll down a bit on the products page. I'm sure that MOTO likes to hide the fact that the old interface is a better deal than new one. I've been using the 828es for many years, and if you want it you'll have to pry it from my cold dead hands. 😉Or maybe you could break in and steal it from the rack, when I'm bot around. Perhaps, I should weld it in place. Just to be on the safe side. What do you think?
I just used this USB-c cable, because it's red and looks neat on camera. For a live situation you'd be better off using NDI or similar long range solutions. And besides that, especially for a rack mounted - aka stationary - studio device, your cable doesn't have to meet the most durable standards. At least in my opinion...
I love my motu 828es...the sound quality is excellent. I have a RME UFX also and the sound quality is the same. No real difference. Highly recommended.
In the 6 months (or so) of testing this device I only encountered one minor hiccup, that was while using an iPad and a Windows PC at the same time to alter settings in the driver. I changed eq settings on the PC and it didn't update the gui on the iPad. That's it, no further problems here... What were your problems?
I had Tascam, Steinberg, Focusrite, and UAD for a while before switching to the MOTU 828es, and I don't even miss the UAD, especially now that the plugins can run without their interface. No doubt this version will perform really well. It's rock solid and never crashes.
I own a pair of the LCD GX's and the cans themselves outperform anything I have owned before. I agree the mic sucks, I use a yeti. I use a Hifiman EF400 with upgraded chip (650 bucks), pushing 5 watts at 32 ohms per channel. For the money I spent, I am happy with my work setup and my gaming/music cravings are filled. I do not plan on upgrading anytime soon.
@@micandcampro yessir! So by two channels that makes 2.5W per, and it definitely feeds these. If it was something like a HE6SE it may not be enough to drive them. My next goal (years away though) is to purchase a pair of CRBN electrostatics.
Since this video is a bit older, I can't exactly remember, but at 2:28 I stated it has no latency. I'm guessing it's apt-x although it's nowhere classified as apt-x. So video streams work like intended without lag. When used with non linear streams, like in games or while video editing, there will be latency for sure, if you're searching for a wireless solution without latency, you'd have to look elsewhere. For example over at audeze and their Maxwell lineup: amzn.to/3Wo673l They come with a dedicated wireless dongle and provide a near cable-like latency. They are designed for gaming, but come with a pretty good eq, I even use them for video and audio editing - no problem! 👍
Glad to see you've gotten a bit more subscribers compared to what people mention in the comments here. You definitely deserve even more tho! Such a clear and easy to follow video with great production quality. Made me chuckle when you presented the noise floor of the mics. Keep up the good work!
I love this but why is no one covering if this mixer can control certain pc items. example, discord volume, itunes or any music software on the computer volume, system sounds, and so on.. I would love someone to make a intense video over all the settings for streaming for OBS. thank you
Wait, it can do that? Too bad I already returned the mixer. Good thing is, I have the XS version on my table now, review upcoming. I have to figure that out ASAP! Stay tuned for that!
@@micandcampro ummm, I don't see a way to do it. I wish it would and this needs NEEDS to be an update in the future. These devices are not ready for streamers. I have have using the DLZ Creator for streaming first before I do anything else with it and boy oh boy it's not ready for streamers at all
I have some nice devices from hercules on hand, the stream 100 and 200. I think these are exactly what you're looking for. They are meant to dial in each and every active audio channel and route it into obs for example. The 100 only controls the volumes, the 200 even integrates a headphone amp, xlr mic input with phantom power, physical dials and much more. Review also upcoming, if you're interested! 😇 Here for a sneak peek: amzn.to/3yjMaCN
@@micandcampro i mean, let's be fair, the GOXLR mini i used I loved it. Especially next to the stream deck. The Mackie needs a routing tool like the GOXLR and needs to take notes for streamers not just podcasters. I have seen that device and was tempted but got the DLZ instead. Luckily I got it new for 300 USD so can't complain
