He’s just a normal bloke who wrote brilliant songs - The Kinks are so good. I love him and Dave. The original band are hard to beat, but Ray and Dave kept on doing until they stopped. Legendary - never will be forgotten.

So many bands had to wait far to long to get in to the RnR hall. And other well deserved bands still aren’t in! At least they got this one right with the Kinks. And in answer to Pete’s “what, kept, you?” (In part 1). I believe there is a mandatory 25 year wait from a bands inception (unlike sports and five years after your last season).

The mugger in New Orleans didn’t just knock Ray and his girlfriend over, he had put his gun to the girlfriend’s head, thus inspiring Ray’s righteous outrage.

It’s hard for me to believe that the band that made You Really Got Me was the same that did Waterloo Sunset, the same that made Lola, the same that made Get Back. In each era they reinvented themselves. Ray was a chameleon of songwriting always adapting to the times and Dave’s guitar playing was right for all seasons from his early myxolydian chord changes to his 80’s-style searing solos and roaring riffs.

As a kid growing up in the 80’s, who became infatuated with the British Invasion of the 60’s in junior high, I’ve always considered “The Big Four” to be: Beatles Stones Who Kinks As a kid, that was the order as well. As I’ve gotten on in life, that order has changed, and The Kinks are at the top of it.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Kinks live but Pete Quaiffe always stood so far apart that he ruined our photos (no magic phones back then). The only chance I had to see Davy Graham was in Nottingham but he didn’t turn up. A massive disappointment. These interviews bring back some great memories, thank you.

It's only been in the last week that I have come to a conscious appreciation of Dave Davies' contributions to the Kinks recordings. Beyond the innovative distortion of "You Really Got Me", his guitar work is consistently masterful. And while his thin tenor as a lead voice may take some getting used to, many a Kinks record would be weaker without that same voice on the chorus. Please take a bow, Dave Davies!

Them four kids knew something about music, arrangements, wit and bringing an audience to daance while the more cerebral types in the auditorium listened in awe. They had it all. Fabulous foresome…and Talmy

Agreed, Dave always brought out the best in Ray's songs and played what was right for the songs. His back-up vocals also were an integral part of the Kinks sound as well. No disrespect to Dave's talent but what do you do when your brother is one of the greatest songwriters ever? You have no choice but to play second fiddle.
@patrickbarrett5650

Think of all the music we grew up with. Every week one group or another had a new release. Why isn’t it replicated now? Where did all the talent go?

My grandmother in Manchester on The Kinks back in the 1960s, "Them boys wanna get things done -- get noticed." Shortly afterward, my grandmother convinced my Mum and Dad to buy me a guitar. Thanks Gran! Great video! Many thanks! "All Day and All of the Night," "Til the End of the Day" "She's Got Everything" -- still clicks and throws sparks! Thanks, brothers Davies and band!
