i just bought one! i have a regular journal but i want a shorter one for more conciseness. i think it could be an easy way to see the basics of what i've done while my regular journal is more for details and deeper information.
I'm slowly working through a 5 year journal. I have had it since Christmas of 2021 (it was a gift from my younger sister). I have not been as diligent with it as I could have been, I have pages that don't have any entries. Hoping to finish it sometime in the late 2020's
Using a 5 year journal consistently for 5 years is always great, but I think its even more interesting to have a "5 year journal" that actually spans an even larger amount of time! What brand is it?
Defiantly! I really wish I would have kept one from my freshman to senior year of college. Even high school would have been great. These smaller 5 year journals have become my go to gift. I started another 5 year but this time its a Leuchttrum brand that has more writing space.
If your worried about a fire you should look into fire retardant and water resident document bags/boxes. They wont hold a full blaze fire but they will protect your journals long enough for you to evacuate and grab them on your way out. I just started journaling at easter and on my second volume already and just ordered along with a notebook for volume 3 a lockable fire retardant and water resistant document box for all my volumes and future volumes and a lockable fire retardant and water resistant document bag for my current journal when we go away.
I go through periods where I keep up perfectly, then other times will get behind a couple weeks. I will backfill as able but if there is nothing significant from some of the days I don’t stress the blanks.
I wished I had journaled when my kids were little. Life was busy with health troubles with myself and my parents. Anyway, I started an A6 5 Year Hobonichi this February. I love having the extra space on the other side for pictures etc. I purchased a Canon Ivy 2 printed so it is fun to add a few little memories. When I have blank days I am going to add favourite quotes and fun facts about me. We shall see how it goes. New subscriber here and I look forward to watching your content.
Thank you for your comment PJ! Being a parent is so hard and time consuming, so don't beat yourself up about not documenting the early days. <3 I've thought about getting a mini photo printer, would love to hear what you think about the picture quality of the Canon Ivy.
Lovely video. I liked the other video. We all have different interests and coming from a follower, i cannot bring myself to give someone a dislike when they are sharing what they like. Even if the video is not an interest to me, i will just not watch it. Thanks for sharing!
I really enjoyed that ❤ sorry about your dislikes, ignore them because your journals are gorgeous and it's Ytubers like you that gave me the push to journal myself which i am sooo grateful for x
I got angry when I heard that someone gave you dislikes for a video, where you work on a baby book project... wow... like.. what the fuck is wrong with people? I have never given a single dislike to a content creator, even if the video isn't exactly my cup of tea. I really believed we were all decent people in the journal community.. I guess I was wrong. 😵
You're so sweet Danie! <3 I don't take it personally, I have given creators I really love dislikes on certain videos. Not to be malicious but just because I didn't enjoy the content. Its a good way to know what kind of videos your audience would prefer watch.
Love seeing all the journals you worked on last year and what you are currently working on. And your story about the bird postage stamps is so sweet! I’m glad I put those on your letter. (Also, not that it matters at this point but I wouldn’t have minded if you had mentioned my name.) Also the Field Notes for your daughter is coming out really good. I, too, love a chunky FN. 😄 Thanks for sharing! -Laura
I also got a 5 Year Journal and I'm trying to backfill it with information from past years. I'm going through old social media posts, text messages, emails, everything lol. I got mine from Sterling Ink and it's wonderful.
Just went and checked out Sterling Inks website! How do you like the paper? I didn't see a layout pic on their website, is it lined or blank? Have a great day! :)
@@craftyjournal7283 I'm a big fan of Tomoe River Paper! The layout is clearly divided into five boxes on each page, one page per day, and the boxes have grid lines. There's also some blank grid pages in the back for extra notes or reflections.
I started that exact same journal last June, when I was 32. With that paper, if you use gel pens, they'll smear if you're not careful. Otherwise, it's so satisfying when it's been written on to flip back and forth. I haven't added any stickers to my cover. I figure in five years, if I find one or two that seems right, I'll add it then.
I haven't used any gel pens in it yet, but I'm pleasantly surprised at how well my fountain pen does. The dry time is a little slow and I defiantly cant use my fountain pen and highlighter. :)
Happy New Year! It's so funny: I started my One Line A Day when I was 21 (in 2021, though I was turning 22) and I'll finish it when I'm 26 as well. LOL. Also, the fact that I have the same first journal as you and I'll also be using a Some Lines A Day Journal next. I really wanted the berry pink Some Lines A Day journal, so I bought it a few years ago because it looked like they weren't making more of them, and I was right. So that was incredibly lucky! Anyway, I went a bit off course there, but the similarities were quite funny. Have a good new year and I'm looking forward to more videos about five year journals. I love that content but it can be so hard to find, so I really appreciate you making it.
I love my One Line A Day journal, and gifted one to a friend for her birthday almost two years ago. I think she enjoys using it, but she has fallen behind with it. She wanted to catch up though, and had a plan of what she would do to make that happen. I also suggested things you suggested in a previous video like filling spaces with stickers, etc. She seemed to like that idea. She doesn't have to use it all the time, there's no pressure. Whether she does or not, I'm really glad she has gotten something out of it. I used a similar five year journal in school, and although I didn't get through the first year of it, I still love it because it showed my day to day life as being so different than what it is now, and it's so lovely to look back on. I'm currently on the third year of the Chronicle Books blue One Line A Day journal (same as yours) and I am really in love with it. Overall, I think that giving someone a five year journal is a risk, but I agree with your below comment that it could plant the journaling seed. I also love that you got that specific design because it was your sister's style. I think she will love it and the thought you put into it with the note and everything. 🥰
Thank you for your comment! Something I have to do sometimes to figure out what I did was look back in my screenshots, photos and texts to fill blank spaces. I wish I would have done a 5 year from start to finish in college, I journaled a lot and filled a bunch of notebooks its just so much to go through now.
@@craftyjournal7283 I do the same to fill stuff in. This was my friend's original plan too, but I also suggested the other things you'd talked about in the video. I know what you mean about wishing you'd done one from start to finish in college, it definitely would have taken up less physical space.
I gifted my cousins journals for christmas once and they used a handful of pages, but ultimately they went unused. I gifted them bc I always think about how I’d started writing in journals at their age, but I guess it’s not for everyone…
Hello it's funny I just handed my sister a journal to write things about my dad's day. What he do what he say just things to remember him. He was just diagnosed with Dementia!
Hi Pam, I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. My grandma had dementia so I know that its hard for the person affected with this disease but also for the loved ones caring for them. Keeping a journal about him and his day to day is such a great idea! Sending prayers <3
I gifted so many journals away over the years, beautiful and expensive ones, in hopes to spark motivation, but guess what? No one ever used them. Quite sad.
I loved to watch your journal collection in two parts. Your style is very inspiring. The page with the hands of you and your husband is so cute. Thank you for sharing.
I love your 5 year journal. You have inspired me to start adding more decoration in mine. I haven’t been journaling in my regular journal much lately either so my 5 year and FN (for daily lists, notes, etc.) has been my main focus lately. Thanks for sharing. (@paperedstars)
I love the covers you’ve made for your journals! The patchwork-y style is super cute! I seem to go through phases where I’m consistent with my one line a day for a few months, and then I’ll abandon it for a few months- but this makes me want to pick mine back up again! Esp bc I’m in the middle of job hunting and going back to school and figuring all that out, so it would be nice to document those changes that are coming! 😊 thank you for sharing and congrats on your little one! 🎉
I do like to see when people actually fill these out. But I could never. I tried multiple times, but as soon I am "forced to use it every day", I get annoyed and it goes to the trash. xD
I really loved watching this. I’m someone that only wrote in journals before but now I’m glueing pretty bits of images in and loving it. I think it’s all journaling 🦉
ahhh i love you. once again i am so glad you are back :) thanks for uploading this. i don't mind the voice-over style and I'm sure no one else does either so you do you boo.
You were right. I squeeked when I saw the UFO museum in your journal. 👽 You know me too well. 🖤 Thank you for the video. It was a nice watch. And I have a joke for you. What is Dracula's favourite fruit?... Neck-tarines! 😂🦇
I knew you would! lol Are there any alien sighting in Germany you know about? I seem to only ever hear about them happening in the US. Also Love the joke lol!! XD
The best thing about the new journaling community is that they don’t keep their creative journaling and “personal” journaling in the same book so when they do flip throughs they actually flip through the journal without the annoyance of trying to cover up personal things. I find it annoying when people try to cover up their words, so you really don’t get an actual flip through.
That's a fair point! I guess it depends on what you're wanting out of a flip. Personally, I don't mind sticky notes and really just want to see decorations but I know it can be really satisfying to see the page as whole. Writing and all. :)
Thank you for sharing a flip through with us!! I always enjoy them so much!! I’m so glad you made it to the Grand Canyon! It’s such a breathtaking view! 🥰 Congrats on your marriage! ❤️ Blessing to both of you! Excited to participate in your art challenge 🤗
Thank you so much Mely, watching your blank journal video now. Congrats on your marriage as well, may it be long and full of blessings! The Canyon was beautiful, it didn't even seem real like I was looking at a green screen or something! haha
congrats on being married now! i'll be honest, I didn't even realize you had gotten engaged. cool cool!! wish you guys a lifetime of happiness. thanks for sharing your journal with us, homie.
