I can't remember when I first heard this song, but it moved me in a very deep way. I'm 57, successful, but like all humans I've had my share of sorrow and tragedy. A song like this helps me stay a believer.
This song is special to me. Back in 1996 I was a relapsed meth user/occasional cook. I had put this CD in my Honda CRX and thought I was skipping to The Moshing Floor, but landed here. I was on my way to a gas station in Stockbridge GA to get some ephedrine pills to convert to meth, but this song struck me hard. I knew I was wrong. "Darkness falls The devil stirs And as your vision blurs you start stumbling The heart is weak The will is gone And every strong conviction comes tumbling down" Crap. That's me. I had to pull over to the side of the interstate and lose every bit of composure I had. I kept listening, though. "And I gasped when I saw you fall in His arms at the finish line." Thank you, Steve Taylor. 26 years clean.

This video always scared the poop out of me as a kid. My dad would put the video on and everytime the three guys appeared on the screen I would start crying.

God's word is only pure in Heaven. Psalms 119:89 "Forever, O LORD, your word is firmly fixed in the heaven"... Down here we seem to have confusion... and also a whole lot of denominations and a whole lot of fear... "Fear does not come from God."

While some artists settled on 'sure-fire' formulas, Mr. Taylor kept pushing, provoking, encouraging. A memory: methinks Clone was the first CD I ever heard..drivin around LA '82
I remember a few years back the show 20/20 had an episode on tele evangelist faith healers who are worth millions. The reporter found out that Robert Tilton was at the airport heading out on a flight. He started talking to him showing him video about a pastor who has 5 different homes,expensive cars,and expensive clothes. They asked Pastor Tilton what he thought He said that the pastor should lose his church and serve jail time. Tilton soon was told the video was about him. He jumped up and began yelling "You are going to hell !"
I heard this song in the 80s in my kitchen. Sound engineer Todd Van Etten, from Mama Jo's in Hollywood, claimed to work on it and played it for me. I thought it was recorded by Petra?? Is that part of my memory file corrupted? TY!!
I dug out my CD of the album, and while I don't see Todd's name on it, it was mixed at Mama Jo's, so that part of the story checks out. And no, Petra didn't have anything to do with this one, but they were pretty big at the time, so I could see the confusion.
@@jsapello Wow!! TY, John!! Yeah, Petra was big-- They told Todd their income went up 4X, then 4X the next year since they started out. He may have a credit on one of their songs- something about blowing across the top of a Fresca bottle!! He lived in City of Orange and drove each day to the studio, for his love of music. Maybe Todd just had a copy of this track? I'm really glad to know, even after awhile, the real music: I've sung it to myself 1000s of times. Thanks for getting out your music and posting for me. Oh my goodness a 80's Christian Music video that was actually good. Thats a first. Its sad creative genuis like him were not given 10 of millions of dollars to run his own creative company, compared to Evangelist organization. He has such a good tract record.
