Very useful to me since my primary interest is recording musical performance where the band is in an L shape with drums, keyboard and bass on the left while horns and vocalist are straight ahead. With a mono mic, the drums are too loud. I hope this stereo mic will let me adjust appropriately in post.
I just purchased this mic and unfortunately will not get to practice with it much as a band I like is going to be playing near us soon. I will be using with the Sony a7IV mirrorless camera. They are a large 15 piece brass band, am I likely going to be best off setting at +20 to skip the camera pre-amp? Thanks @theredheadnerd.
I got ma rode stereo today and am very disappointed. overall appearence is cheap and fragile as a chinese child toy. Design of the mechanical parts are mega fail in so many details, from the battery slot that can not be opened because slick and plain as f* and the switches that are tiny, slick and refuse to move or the overall fragility at says put me in your bag and i will come out broken. but what p*ss*s me off is the microphonic cable that rumbles all the time when touched. but due to the brainless construction it comes out of the body in a way that it will immediately touch the holding construction. the rim for fixing the cable is also embarrassing and totally useless and looks cheap as f*. the dead cat comes with a rode label sewn within that flatters in the wind and makes noises, so first thing you have to do is to cut things off and find some gaffa to find a way to fix the cable. I am sure when the dead cat will cancel wind the cable will catch it. i am really angry about such a complete mess and fail in construction.

nice review and clips! I'm visiting the Philippines thinkn about grabbing a mike for recording live sound with my GoPro. I'm quite convinced that this will do a good job after listening to all the music example provided. Ohh yeh, and i know where all these clips r recorded. right in my backyard! If i'm in a small rehearsal studio using the mic and my dslr camera, should I record with the drummer and guitar amplified through a speaker but vocals singing to the rode mic or just use the studio rehearsal mic? I'm uncertain what distance to have the rode as well. I'm trying to get as clear vocals as possible recorded. Last time I sang into the rehearsal studio mic with the rode underneath it and it sounded terrible.
shoot. I ordered the videomic pro. I didn't realize this was a totally different (shotgun) version. I want to film a music performance and the videomic pro is a shotgun mic, which focuses mostly on sound in front. I'm unsure if I should return the it and get this one. I know the stereo version says it's for music performances, but what if I want to focus on the artist singing and playing piano. Would the shotgun (videomic pro) version work well still? I guess it depends on where the speakers are pointing.
David Shaheen Well, the one you ordered is mono, better for dialogue, this is stereo (i think it is better for music). If you want to isolate sounds yes, the shotgun is better. But if it is an indoors recording in a echoey room i would not use a shotgun... they do not like echoes. You could also get a sound recorder ans ask the sound technician for a stereo line out of the mixer, and synchronise later, or get the stereo mic and get closer to the sound source.
Hello. During the fireworks, the sound was a bit....well, muffled exept for the explosions. But the sound was not picked up in a way that (from my guess) a firework use to sound. Is there a limitation in sound pressure on this microphone, or does it have do to with the settings? Thank you for a nice video! =)
Just got one of these microphones, sounds great hooked up to my Canon T5i. Must have watched 10 different videos and yours was the best for listening. People asking about settings. What seems to work best on mine, 20+ on the mic, manual audio on camera, move the cursor all the way to the left then tap 7-10 times to the right, zero hiss at those settings for me.

Fabulous mic. If I didn't just buy the video mic pro I might have gone for this one. It really handled the musicians well, but the fireworks sounded very compressed like muted pops and no dynamics there.
