It seems as if you're teaching to advanced students. I'd recommend you explain concepts as if it is the student's first time learning this.

The answer is 147.89 (148 km). 115 squared is not 12769 but 13225...

what the hell , you said this is definitely not a right triangle, yet one of your angles is 90 degrees how does that make any sense?

Here's a lot easier way to do this problem. In your calculator, sqrt ((73cos(29) + 113cos(119))^2 + (73sin(29) + 113cos(119))^2). You get about 146.3, which is 146 rounded to the nearest km. sqrt = square root, ^2 = squared

This is late but someone will probably see this in the future. Because when measuring in "bearings" you start from the NORTH direction (positive Y-axis) and move clockwise.

5). Two cars leave from the same starting point, one in a direction due west, the second in a direction with a bearingof 195. After travelling 15km, the first car is due north of the second car. How far has the second car travelled. (draw and label). Help please
@dhairt7772
@dhairt7772 10 лет назад
sorry this is a bit late but the second car has travelled 3.9 km (1 d.p) if you draw it up you'll see why

To clear this up, the answer is only 146, because we are told to round off to the nearest km, which 146.3 km will be 146 km =)
