Hell, I don’t know where to start, but won’t keep you. I live in the Cariboo, in BC. Thankfully I saw Zevon once live in Vancouver. And after the show, I was lying out behind the centre. There was a limousine waiting, exhaust rising in winter air. I bought his first album on vinyl 78-79 (?). I grew up listening to his music, and still go back to it. I’d schemed to catch him at the back exit, and one of the guys from The Eagles who played guitar for him, but the security was swift. And I was pretty drunk.
I FEEL ... THAT NO ONE NO OTHER PPL UNDERSTAND, FEEL, LOVE ... BLACK AMERICAN MUSIC GENRES & POETRY AS WELL AS THE IRISH IN IRELAND DO...( well maybe 1other PPL I won't mention here .)
I wish she would start with introducing her songs. This one is about WWI. From what I've read, it was written after she (Laura) found some letters between a husband and his wife during the war.
Doesn't it speak volumes, that this superbly insightful poem of a song rates only 4 comments? Yes, I know I'm ' preaching to the choir ', here, but Holy CROW, what a songwriter!
I love Laura Marling but I just don't think the orchestra is really necessary. A single cello would have been better. It's probably just me but I think the orchestra just detracts from what is already a very good song. It's a great song with just a guitar. It makes it very personal, really no need for the orchestra.. Eh. maybe I should have been there.!
ain't life strange ain't it funny nothing matters much but love and money things don't work out the way you'd reckon the money comes first and the love comes second if cigarettes make the sun come up whiskey makes the sun go down and in between you do a lot of standing around it's all I can do to make it through the day she wrapped it all in darkness and I can't find my way and I'm walking down the sidewalks of LA wishing I had a warmer jacket and the leaves are falling down I'm just another man with an empty handed heart in an empty hearted town It started out alright it ended up all wrong should've done, should've done that's my song now the night is falling hard and fast all dressed up for the masquerade and the lights of the city stretch as far as the eyes can see Look what wonders man has made Look what wonders man has made I'm walking down the sidewalks of LA wishing I had a warmer jacket and the leaves are falling down and I'm just another man with an empty handed heart in an empty hearted town and I'm walking down the sidewalks of LA wishing I had a warmer jacket and something more to say
