I remember growing up in northwestern Pennsylvania in the 1980s and 1990s, when our cable company carried both WGN and TBS. I got to watch father and son whenever their respective games were on. Not only that, we also had both WWOR and WPIX out of New York carrying both of THEIR teams, plus the regional affiliates of the Indians and Pirates. Lastly, whenever the weather was good I was able to get Tigers games from the Detroit stations via a rooftop TV antenna. All that variety, and I end up becoming a Cincinnati Reds fan. Lol.
Did you ever confirm this date? That was what I wanted to know... When the beast took them off TBS ? If accurate... Skip dies less than 1 year later..Aug '08
I've been a diehard baseball fan since 1995. I've watched countless games on WGN (and made me a die hard Cubs fan), and many games of TBS. I'm not even a Braves fan and I watched a ton of games on their Superstation. Brilliant move making these games nationwide. I grew up in California and New Mexico and watched more games from the teams located in Chicago and Atlanta than my local teams. Made a lot of new fans that way. Including myself.
Today, the local SABR Chapter went on a cemetery tour which included the grave of the late, great Skip Caray. How he is not in the broadcaster's wing of the HOF is a head-scratcher. The tour and this video brought back lots of great memories. Somewhere Skip is having a "Double Martinez" and being asked to explain the infield fly rule.
If Harry didn't pass away before the 98 season started, I guarantee that the game in Chicago would of been a dual broadcast on TBS/WGN with the 3 carays working together
The twins of Chip Caray have just been hired as a duo for the Double A team of the Diamondbacks, the Amarillo Sod Poodles. They haven't fully graduated college yet and have already gotten full time jobs, 138 games I think starting soon. Sounds like the general manager of that team was at the world series near the twins, mom and sister when one of the ushers pointed out to him that was Chip Caray's wife. He always wanted to meet Chip as he had met the 2 elder Caray's. They talked about the double A team and that they wanted to call games together one day. Sounds like in 2 weeks the job opened up and he hired them. So sweet to hear!
I love skip and the crew. I remember a call he made in a random game, his call was it's a long drive and a half a millisecond later caught by the right fielder. Love you Skip!!! R. I. P. sir.
The Braves Being on TBS and being really good for an NL team is what created a massive fan base in the 90s I used to be a massive David Justice fan and then Chipper took over
