Welcome to Return of the disc, my name is Dan. This RU-vid channel is dedicated to Film theory, Movie Reviews, Physical Media, 4k, blu-ray reviews and more. The objective is to bring awareness to movies that are available on disc. I grew up at the end of the Video Store era. I have been collecting physical media since 2001. I am also a filmmaker. I have experience writing, directing, producing and editing my own feature and short form movies. I look forward to growing a positive cinephile community. Thank you.
Don’t even know where I got this info, but that bedroom scene was shot on a soundstage where it was equipped to turn around. Another fact is that the same room or maybe Glen’s bedroom (exploding bed) was used in another high profiled movie.
I might just pick it up... I've never been a big fan of the movie because it's sooooo dar ka nd moves very slowly, but if it looks cleaner and colors pop more, i'd be willing to give it another shot.
I really wish there existed a better version of this, damn dude this suck. I want to throw my money at them, but i love this show too much to buy this inferior version
Smokey and the Bandit is one of my favourite Movies of all time, This film NEVER gets old I’ve watched this film like a Million times it just NEVER gets boring. I showed this film to my family they absolutely enjoyed. The CAST All the Actors and Actresses in this film are WONDERFUL. I wanted to wish Jackie Gleason, Burt Reynolds, Pat McCormick, Paul Williams, Jerry Reed, and Sally Field FANTASTIC JOB. Jackie Gleason was the only ONE that made this film so popular and funny, I laughed a lot of lines when Jackie Gleason said so many Jokes. But I got to tell this film was Unbelievable, I want to Wish THANK YOU so much to the director HAL NEEDHAM to create this Awesome film. One Thing I really love about this film was the Soundtrack: East Bound And Down, The Bandit, The Legend, and West Bound And Down were Amazing. I also want to wish thank you so much to Jerry Reed to put these Soundtracks in this film. One of my favourite scenes in this film is when Burt Reynolds and Sally Field went to a relaxing Swamp and talked about Life it also shows beautiful Nature and I love this the Music. SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT 1977 Is THE BEST MOVIE EVER MADE. GIVING SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT CREDIT: 100%.
The book's great too. It's a pretty faithful adaptation to screen. I rented a VHS of this when I was 13 not expecting much since the cover made this look a low budget pile. It is low budget but the writing, acting and direction are perfect - it's a blue collar arthouse movie and the only special effects are shots of an America that no longer exists. You can say nothing happens or that there are no stakes, but the awesome thing is that eight years of a man's life are at stake and it's more exciting than most movies where the earth is going to end.
@@returnofthedisc It had all the hype stickers on it saying it was PURPLE vinyl. Took it back to Target today and exchanged it for one of the two remaining. Luckily, this one was PURPLE!😃
I can’t wait to get a cooy. I don’t need to wait for a sale for this one. My first viewing was when it first made it to cable and it made me an instant Rodriguez fan. I’m glad it’s a solid Criterion presentation. Thanks.
It was a blind buy for me and I agree it's not an elite western but very good overall. It was also my first time seeing Gary Cooper and I liked his character and acting. A young Lloyd Bridges was a pleasant surprise. I also agree, the 4K picture is great and the sound is perfectly fine.
They have all been great in there own way surpassingly this isn’t at the top of my list because of how much I love it the TV movie and show that had the two marks spelled two different ways and salvation with Eric Kristen dunst the guy that is in fallout justified and so many other things and the Edward furlong movie is a dam masterpiece with so much greatness in it but it falls flat on it’s face completely that is why it’s not at the top of my list city of angels is the worst of the series not a masterpiece at all it’s great because of iggy pop Sarah and Gabriel are in it the actor who played Ashe did really well there is a great cut that Harvey said nope I won’t let you release that and went in and forced what he wanted but the biggest problem with city of angels is it didn’t have any flash backs to the original Ernie Hudson was perfectly alive and well to appear in the movie his character was alive and well Gideon was alive and well in both life and the movie universe they could have had a bigger group of characters in los angels after leaving Detroit behind they could have had an explanation of what Gabriel in the cats are they could have had a train scene the skull cowboy and the all white horse with the white lightning all over the body it would have fit perfectly but they are all masterpieces and work in there own ways
@@returnofthedisc Exactly! I hate to even use the word 'remake' for it. Its yet another abominated remake by the inexperienced youngsters of today's Hollywood.
@@returnofthedisc I really enjoyed your video btw. Its just every time I see the original real Crow, I can't help but thinking of this new monstrosity "remake" they're trying to stick on us! Its an outrage! Some classics are meant to be left as originals - with the exception of digital clarity improvements, including deleted scenes, and re-issuing on improved (physical) formats (ie: BluRay, 8k, etc)
I bought this on vhs back when it first came out ,I myself was in my youth a independent film maker now I’m much older and had a lot health problems don’t make movies anymore but I hav been thinking of a small project, but this film I liked from the get go.
How is the this print of the film? I know they did digital scrubbing to it. Did they remove the grain? What I want to really know is if the Blu-ray version is better.
There is still some grain. I’d say the bluray is very close . The 4k provides more detail of course but the criterion bluray is a 4k restoration. I think the major difference would be if you have Dolby vision. Otherwise the bluray is just as good. Up to you if you think it’s better or not. Personal preference. I had the dvd prior so the 4k from the Columbia box set was a massive upgrade for me.
i saw this one on dvd about 20 years ago, and really loved the film. it's bleak as hell, but so well done. great review-i'm interested in getting the 4k now.
Very nice pickups 🛻 Some really good stuff there, “Human Desire” really peaked my interest, funny how you never hear anything about Glenn Ford films. I’ll put that on my wish list. Be Well
