I’m that golfer, lost all my pride got he turbo irons never played such good golf. Formerly a 3 handicap golfer. Got a mate off scratch who plays cobra t rails.
Great discussion, thank you! I have a stealth 2 HD 3 hybrid in the bag and it replaced my ~205 yard iron. I am really debating the replacement of my 195/190 iron with a hybrid. I just find them easier to hit and I really like the decent angle. Just trying to decide which hybrid to get, For sure the 23 degree is to close to the 3h at 20 degree. So 27 or 31, I am leaning towards the 27.
Quick question, I’m looking to change grips on my phantom X5 Scotty Cameron, how thin of a grip can I put? Can I go all the way down to a pp58? Or would it be too thin? Thank you
Please do more hitting in a sim, range, course! It gets too dry to watch. You have lots of info, I think you have high quality content that could take off on subs but more action please!
This is a category that is incredibly evenly matched so decisions come down to tiny details and very often personal/brand preferences. Decisions made in this category are likely to entail data supporting a choice, not because one models data is significantly better than another. We've hit a ton of Ping irons over the years and the Blueprint S is probably the most desirable we've seen for some time, possibly ever. It's fitting opportunities (with Power and Retro lofts) and overall desirability are second to none, if the model isn't recognised as one of the best irons of the year we simply wouldn't be doing our job. Hope that helps.
@@todaysgolfer oh I agree. I absolutely love the blueprint s compared to previous ping irons. But man... those new Wilson's?!? yeeesh!!!! might be best ever!
The and one and only putter that will hole more putts for you, isnt the newest, isnt the most expensive, isnt the one being raved about BUT the one that you feel totally comfortable with in your hands ans d your stroke.. I have had many many putters, newest, best and others but always always go back to my 196th0 Ping Anser Putter l found why caddying at the Country Club in Brookline, found it in the bushes off the 18th green. guess the owner wasnt happy with it. Just had a new ping grip put on it
I put the Golf Pride reverse taper round grip on my putter about 2 weeks ago. Absolutely love it. I was a decent putter to start with but I have gotten pretty deadly since I had the new grip put on. There is such a stability with it. They are going to sell a ton of these.
I would love to be able to enter some of my stats into a form and be told (using this data) a few options for the ball that best fits my game. Does that exist yet?
Great video. Thank you for the information. I have a driver swing speed around 117. My handicap is a 4.3 ... I'm going to try the maxfli tour x. I played the maxfli back in highschool 25 years ago. Gonna give it a try again.
@todaysgolfer the ball was excellent. Great distance, really good feel around the green. Could control trajectory high and low very easily. I'm going to keep playing them.
I am still using my Ping Fetch putter that I picked up about 2 years ago. I love that thing. One thing I did do Simon & Neil was to add the Golf Pride Reverse Taper round grip to it about a week ago. The addition is proving to be wonderful. Hands feel more relaxed and stable and I am nailing more putts dead on. Couldn't help but notice that Cleveland has a very similar fetch type putter here. I was surprised to see that. :) As always wonderful review by you two golf sleuths !!!!! Thank you guys. Joe
7 iron Swing speed 87-93. Handicap 33. Very inconsistent ball striking. When I don't hit it thin, fat, slice or hook, the ball goes much farther than average players shots. Which of these PXG clubs would suit me? A recent fitter put me in players distance with extra stiff shaft but I might want more forgiveness with less distance.
You're a really interesting case Rob, if there is weakness in the PXG line-up you expose it. If we were looking at Ping and TaylorMade, you'd have to think the G430 or Qi10 would be a really good option. But you just don't need the extra speed or distance of the strong lofted PXG 0211 or 0311 XP. Without seeing you hit shots it's impossible to say for sure, but the extra loft of the 0311 P might well be the best option. We can see why a fitter might swing towards this option. PXG might well have some new products available in the summer, might be worth holding off until then. Hope that helps.
I still play the Wilson V6 forged....ive had the P790's...Titleist T100 and JPX921 but still go back to Wilsons as theyre softer and higher launching....have to look at the Dynapower and the new CB's...
All marketing hype a good player can smash the g10 where they want it to go.besides they are making golf for the rich.I would feel guity if spent 500 pounds on new driver and my wife would kill me. 😊
Wilson Staff Tour Model is NOT the least expensive tour ball at 18p/yard....your chart clearly shows Maxfli Tour and Tour X are less at 13p and they are every bit as much a tour level ball as even the Pro V 1 as almost all testing industry wide has proven.
For any model to be a tour ball it has to be played on tour David. When this video was filmed in June 2023 that just wasn't the case. Appreciate that Lexi Thompson has now started playing Maxfli in 2024.
Bit of a click bait style video unfortunately. If your going to show alternative grips on your post photo and then only review the major brands shown, like Golf Pride, Lamkin and so on then really why bother. I use the Kotahi Putter Grip - Undersized and it's transformed my putting, but Golf Monthly didn't review that.
Just got fitted two days ago with the Black Ops 0311 10.5 with an x stiff hzrdus 60g. Best feeling club and great feedback, even for mishits. Long too. Love it. Can't wait to game it tomorrow.
Apologies, the i530 launched after our test sessions wrapped up, but we have produced a further "Which Ping iron suits me?" video to show how it compares to the rest of the family. Hope that helps.
Its nice of you to share your fitting experience. It seems you'd fallen into a lot of the misconceptions and myths that a lot of people do when it comes to club fitting. People that consider themselves tall think they need longer than standard, and people who think they're strong or fast think they need stiff or extra stiff. Many people are bullheaded and not open to change, but the people that are open to listen to a fitter and are willing to try something different from what they have used in the past can see significant benefit from a fitting. If someone sets up with bad posture (legs too flexed, upper body too upright, arms laying on top of the chest their hands will be positioned high, grip points at or above the belly) they'll think the need longer or more upright clubs (or both). Take the same golfer : hinge them from the hips with the center of the hips positioned above the ankles, let the arms hang to the side of the chest (look at a close up of Mcilroy at address), and let the arms hang under the shoulders, and you find the golfers back and club shaft now create a 90* (or close to it) angle. Now the club shaft points along the beltline, and a standard length and lie angle work well. Now if someone swings, comes out of their posure, and early extends (or swings excessively out to in) once again the fitting will suggest more upright lie, but if the golfer swings with good posture and doesn't early extend, and brings the hands and arms down (like the pros) instead of out the hands will return to a similar height at impact to were they started at address and lie angle fitting will be standard to maybe even flat. The more flexible a shaft the higher it can potentially kick the ball (if you're transferring energy into the shaft) and the steeper angle of decent that can be produced., The stiffer the shaft the less it will bent, the lower the ball will be launched, and the lower angle of decent that will be produced. Rory Mcilroy is both strong and fast (swing speed wise), yet he hits the very wippy and flexible G-Force swing speed trainer straight and on a good height. That's because his swing is on a good path into the golf ball, and he is transferring energy into the shaft (which causes the shaft to straighten) at impact.
Generally there's a bit of cross over between 75 mph and 80 mph with a 7-iron Shane. So long as your speed is above this you should hopefully be ok, but do check as how you deliver the club at impact can make a huge difference. Hope that helps.
Brilliant thank you so much for your reply. I am over 80 anyway so should be okay. I currently have D7 irons only playing 3.5 years use to slice the ball but finally after lessons and playing more regularly I draw the ball but I find my miss is a hook now, hit my 7 iron between 155-160 find they jump a lot tho could the. Have one over 170. Hence looking to upgrade to either qi10 or AI smoke
We don't Rich. To ensure an accurate comparison we use a test pro. We've just found using slower speed amateurs can lead to creating some very inconsistent results. Hope that helps.
Just came across the video. I recently bought a mint set of 2021 790's at a good price. I am coming from Sims max irons which I hit fairly well. My question on your video. Is 190+yds for a 7 Iron normal for a mid handicapper? I usually get 160 on the sims max. I hit the 790's and get about the same distance.
Great analysis with robot testing, play the ball you are willing to pay for that you think will help your game but be honest with yourself, playing a Pro V1 isn't going to turn a high handicap player into a scratch golfer.

I have the Mizuno 225 and love them except for the occasional fairway flyer. I also have played the 2022 P770 and experienced the same thing. Did you find that was the case with the new 770s as well as the 245s?
The average driver swing speed is 92 - 93mph, we prioritise using a consistent striker to get an accurate comparison, over using a slower speed but less consistent player.
one reason you feel like you can't do data is because putting changes based on eye dominance. So left eye and right eye dominant players should each play differently.
Hey Today's Golfer, I just watched your video and I must say that it was really informative and well-made. I was wondering if I could help you edit your videos and repurpose your long videos into highly engaging shorts? I can also make high CTR thumbnails for your channel
