Thanks so much for posting this! Literally the ONLY video i could find, featuring a THIN Birch shell on a deep snare. How does it sound? I'm looking at the exact same configuration (birch with the die-cast hoops) and i'm not sure which shell thickness i should pick.
@@banditY2K also the first floor in his blue tribal kit is a 15x13 and the second is 18x15, hear here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aOb9VoSY4uA.html
I had no idea that beech could be that thunderous. When I was in high school around 87', a drummer from our Jazz group had a monster Phonic Plus kit that he turned me on to. Playing those beech shelled drums was like falling in love with the drums all over again. The only kits I had owned prior to that first Sonor experience were by and large very poor garbage,
@@GlitchComputer Sonor is only making the Onyx in the lighter version. There are other Dark Colors in the RAL or other finishes that you may like. Do you know how to use the Sonor 3D Configurator?
I daresay Sonor missed their calling; they should have been pimping THIN beech shells in the 80's! Sam, does Sonor absolutely refuse to make a thin shelled bass drum? I ask because the "configurator" always defaults to a medium shell for the kick if you choose thin or vintage shells. Thanks!
734 area code ? are you in the Ann Arbor Area ? ? I like the idea of a 14"x13" deep floor tom in combination with a 16x15 deep . Same with a 10" that is 7" deep . Beautiful drums . You have these in beech ?
Joe it's not a stencil, the veneer has the patter on it and then they spray the different colors to the shell. If you watch the video of the spraying of the Blue Tribal tom you will see what it looks like before and after the spraying.
Sam these sound awesome! I could not be happier with the custom SQ2 kit I ordered with you a few years ago too. Just wanted to say you were a pleasure to work with then and I hope the business is going strong!
These sound sooooo good. I wasn’t a huge fan of the color but they look really good in this video. And you just sold the white marine kit. So this may be the ticket.
Hey Sam, firstly I love your videos! I'm a big Sonor fan and was fortunate enough to go to the factory for my 18th birthday, years ago. I just wanted to ask, do you know whether the shell specs (ply thickness specifically) on this kit is the same as Gavin's? I've seen videos where he's demoed and talked about the specs of his blue tribal kit, which matches this one in regards to sizes, however all he mentions is that they're all maple shells. If you have any further information that could help that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time Sam and I hope you're well.
