La grandeza de un hombre recae en poder lastimar a otro, pero no hacerlo. En poder humillar al otro, sin hacerlo. En poder creerse superior del carácter moral y virtuoso, sin hacerlo.
Everyone was cruel to him but unfortunately they had to they gave him no option to fail cause there was none he is the finest example of victim to circumstance
I listened to this while taking a shit and doing the same pose on the toilet i will never look at life the same way again this event has changed my perspective about everything
People think that Shinji is a coward and he could've and should've dealt with what he's been through better. That's completely wrong and I think people's expectations on a person in fiction has been changed by other protagonists and such, yes most media treats the main character like a person (sometimes) but not fully. There's nothing really different about Shinji, he is a 14 year old child, still finding out his sexuality and feelings by the way. Other MC's deal with their situations "better", even if the situations is "worse." Hideako Anno has been able to incorporate a child dealing with whatever the hell NGE is almost perfectly. Thank you, Anno, thank you.
I always loved this type of characters like Shinji and Subaru from re:zero, its the fact that they have "flaws" they feel realistic and live because they mature throughout the story, i mean.....i can see myself being literally similar to them at least for the most part, meanwhile the power fantasy characters is just unrealistic, ironically the most realistic Naruto ever got in my eyes is when the nine tails take over for example
Shinji was abandoned as a kid after his mom died, then was thrust into this impossible position at 14 years old. With everyone around him putting loads of pressure on him and all of them having questionable morals. The rebuild timeline does a slightly better job in the end of letting him be the hero he wanted to be and grow up a bit. The end of the evangelion movie does perfectly end the series in a way that makes sense for the clearly messed up 14 year old shinji is in the original series tho
Shinji is literally me. I put one of the (gorgeous) postcard that’s sold with the Perfect Edition manga in my office of me (Shinji) and my best friends (the other Children) (it was the only postcard that did not sexualise minors, it shows the Children smiling for the camera in winter clothes) up in my office, in the hope that someone asks what it is so that I can explain that to them. And be sent on psychiatric evaluation
