I didn’t go to film school. I didn’t go to photography school. In fact, like you, I learned a lot through trial and error and watching countless hours and hours of RU-vid videos by my favorite content creators - taking what I loved about their styles and methods and made them my own. Now it’s my turn to contribute to the community. My channel used to be about fitness (a great passion of mine) and now it’s about the love of creating content and what I’ve found to be my best practices.
@MrSTravelQuest thanks for the kind words. You really got me thinking about doing more videos like this. I go through a ton of gear for my work and I’m always testing configurations and settings and this was a very simple process so you might be onto something here!
@@KevinLe Do it! You’ve got my full support. I’ve watched some of your videos on editing and audio too. I’m always looking to learn new things as I work on my own videos.
Hi, I found your video very useful. Greetings from Colombia. I have configured the camera without understanding your language. It is magnificent. I was left with some doubts, I could not load the lut appeared to me that you can not load from the menu. And the other is how to correctly use the color checker in v-log, could you make a video explaining this?
Appreciate your insights on this... do you still use or like it? Have you used other options for live streaming or do you do as much live streaming? Love to hear. Thx
@@teddyb4168 thanks for checking out this video! I mostly use the shogun for recording talking-head videos using the NDI WiFi feature to record directly to my phone! The result is quite beautiful!
The main difference here would be the ease of changing frame rates as you would not set your shutter speed all the time with a fixed shutter angle. Mathematicians do not need to be involved in this 😂
@@KevinLe idk bro, the frame on the LCD perfect matched the level on the post thing going up and down on the right of the frame, but the actual shot didn’t match it. There’s two possibilities: 1. I’m just kinda stupid (highest likelihood) 2. Lens warp or something. Either way, watched the whole video and loved it man. Keep it up!
Why did I forget it in the settings? I don’t shoot in 6k mostly because I get a great enough image in 4k especially for socials. 6k is overkill in most applications
It's actually quite simple! It just takes a turn of the dial from M mode (for photography) and C1-C3 for video. The beauty of it is when you're in M mode, it saves your photography settings so you can switch to video mode and then back to your previous photography settings quickly
thanks... tried to follow along but at 7.15 you started showing your custom settings without show us how you got there? Still confused to how you got to that fn9 page? Just some feedback..
I’ll have to rewatch how I did this because I’m pretty sure I showed how I set it up and how you navigate getting to those settings. If not, I can definitely do an update on this
Ok I see what you mean. So what I should’ve added here was “in order to set a custom button, you have to hold down that physical button until the options pop up that you want to set”
Hi! Great video, thx! Question: How can i adjust the shutter speed quickly when shooting in the "movie manual mode" on a panasonic lumix S5IIX camera? Right now it is splitting ut every shutterstop to tenths of a second which is super annoying
Thanks! I often have trouble wrapping my mind around producing vertical video too, especially when i am heading into a production. It's almost like you have to choose between shooting vertical OR horizontal when on-location. But i think there's a way to do both... Especially if your camera shoots 3x4 or 1x1 opengate. Then you can choose your format, but i think editing with descript and capcut allow you to really push for vertical video formats better than fcpx or premiere
Great Video! I know that guy! I have setup a bunch of Podcast Studios over the years. If they would just call us first, they would save a lot of money! BTW, you passed right by my place to get over to Wells the restaurant and by my moms place to get to the ranch! Keep the videos coming!
Oh!!! Nice! Lee is a genuinely awesome guy! Seriously. When it comes to producing podcast spaces and tech. It’s so easy for people to get a bunch of gear and get in over their heads really quick. The last project I did was one of those. They built out the space but didn’t really have a clear picture of what they wanted to do so I ended up flying in and getting it done in three days for them. But it eventually worked out but imagine if I had been there from the inception of the idea…. Wowsers. BTW i seriously love your videos! Super insightful and great BTS of the process, workflow and gear
Content Creators is a term created by smart rich google execs who own youtube to get gullible non interesting people to believe that others actually want to see their mundane lives ugly faces and boring personalities are actually interesting when in fact they are simply attention seekers who chase after followers and metrics about how many subscribers and likes they can get to feed their own egos. in fact they are falling for the advertising companies temptation of creating a video so the advertiser have a place to reach as many sets of eyes as possible to sell their products. People who fall into this trap end up trying to please total strangers to get views. They coined the word Content Creators as a way to suck in the uninteresting to create youtube or tiktok channels while the executive boards get free content to sell to their advertisors and the masses invest many thousands of dollars on equipment and editing software and many hours of their lives posting and editing while constantly asking for you to donate a cup of coffee or money to their patreon accounts. lts dangling the carrot in front of the bunny, never quite able to reach the carrot.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, bob. It sounds like you tried, failed and was left with a sour taste in your mouth about the whole experience. Not everyone has the same definition of “content creator” as you. To be clear, not everyone went into being a content creator for the same reason. For me, I do it because I already get paid to do this for a living, creating content for brands, businesses and influencers to help grow their reach, authority, and influence while selling products. So to some degree, you’re right. These brands that do need to sell their products do need to make content. They pay me to do this for them. I publish content because it helps me to continue to improve my processes, document it all, and share it with others to help them. For me, I’m creating to answer questions, help people out, and form a community. Sounds like you need to try again.
Quick update... Shortly after making this video, i ended up buying both the s5ii and s5iix. I loved the s5iix for my use-case, that i returned the s5ii and kept the s5iix
I’m not sure if I notice a difference in the image quality between the s5 and the s5ii. I will say that I definitely notice a difference with the s5iix. I just got it and it is insanely nice
@@KevinLe You need to view your videos at 1:1 to see the difference. Even on the S5IIX, the sharpening and details filtering are much worse with the standard profiles. On V-Log, the details are better but still not as good as on the first S5. If you use BRAW, the image is great though.
Great pacing and content video. I'm considering prime lens over zoom bc of the quality difference. It's more to carry and more money, but that low F number is delicious.
Yeah those super fast lenses are slick. I have a 35 f1.4 that’s so incredibly beautiful and I’m looking forward to using it now that I have a fully capable autofocus system
Glad you liked it! It was the first time I ever did a comparison or even a field test like that. Funny enough, I’ve always known it, but never really saw it like how I laid it out. If anything, this was a really good reference for myself in future productions
@@KevinLe Yeah, it's really helpful. I have a 100-300mm that I use to shoot stuff MUCH further away but seeing how nice the image looked at 200mm at 50ft makes me want to use it more often at closer ranges.
I guess I am in the same boat as you. Older cameras are still good. I still use a gh4 and gh5. I do enjoy seeing how far these cameras have come though. Very good review. One of these days I may upgrade again.
@@KevinLe I don't really have much experience, I use the X-T3, the next models say even better. Mine cost me just about 600 dollars, not new. It has really interesting colors, I can drop some footages, although I'm in the process of learning, there's a chance I'm screwing something up that's not right 🙈
I love me the G85! That's a seriously underrated camera. You can easily find it for $300-400 used and the mft lenses you can get for it are so incredibly inexpensive. Shooting in Natural color profile with a slight bump down in contrast and you're 100% set. I used 4 of those for producing multicamera productions and they were solid. Thanks for watching!
Thanks! It's actually a random friction arm i had laying around that had a quarter-20 male on the end. I added a 3/8" adapter and then mounted the mic to it. Super clutch!
Hi! I’m really curious as to if the connect requires a Atomos Cloud plan or if you can connect directly from the device to youtube. Also can it do 1080? Would you recomend it now that you have had it for a while? 🙂
Yes. So it totally does require Atomos Cloud Plan but you can do the $5 per month one which will get you started. Personally, I think they could've done better with the plans giving a free version that does the streams for free because there are other devices (i think) that do it that way. However. If you shell out the extra $99 for the NDI HX feature. There are a ton of apps that work with NDI and produce even better results. For example - There's an app called TopDirectorView and it allows you to record straight to your PHONE using NDI which for me is huge because i can edit and post straight to TikTok or any socials. There's a TopDirector Switcher as well that allows you to do multicam and it's essentially the same thing
@@KevinLe It’s just sad that they don’t let us stream directly to other platforms. I use Blackmagic Atems that do stream from device directly to youtube etc. And I think what Atomos is doing here is bad in the long run. I understand the business: they make devices that last for years and years and need to get new money from somewhere. But this is not the way. Thank you for the other recomendations, I’ll check them out! 🙏🏼
Hi just tested for the first day. 1 Can't see the trigger option. 2 Missing close playback option on Atomos 3 Focus peaking 4 Touch Screen only works in the middle of the screen, when trying to hide icons options. 5 Audio delay 6 Really horrible noise cancellation on -40db input source.
I see your message is only 2 month old and the latest firmware is from march 23rd... Can you confirm there is no HDMI Trigger on the latest version ? (10.05). Release notes aren't specific about that, I see this is listed as a limitation on 10.04, but isn't anymore in 10.05?
