Those saplings would make a great woven fence. Cut the thickest to post length and the rest weave back and forth thru those posts. A little shrub growth and new tree saplings and you have a living hedgerow.
Did you just do a spreader for the seeds? Did you WAY overseed as well since you could not use a No-Till Drill? Please answer these extremely important questions
I read the article on disadvantages to green roofs. I just want to leave two points. As far as homes in the States, make sure you have engineered for the additional weight and that the contractor knows how to correctly build a flat roof. P.S. They aren't actually flat. The last point is more and more insurance companies are doing drone surveys and cancelling your homeowners policy if they don't like what they see. So we as a community of green citizens need to make sure we are supporting legislation that keeps this from happening.
I would never recommend this brand. Now, all of the bolts that hold the engine to the flywheel housing have COMPLETELY back out. 18HP works great when running Before buying this brand I would recommend all interested to try and contact the manufacturer/distributor... Oh yeah, there's a contact number allright but it's just a loop back to the beginning (Canada). If you like you can email them but there is a charge for someone to answer your questions. To sum it up: the fuel tank mounting flanges tore away from the tank - had to weld that; Fuel tank to engine mounting bosses, one bolt snapped off, and 2 of them tore the threads out of the aluminum body - couldn't reuse the mounting bosses so I hade too remotely mount the fuel tank;; muffler cracked and fell off - welded that; sharpening blades by DISASSEMBLING the entire feed area; fuel tank developed a pin hole leak on the top of the tank - fixed with aluminum tape; and now the engine has separated from the body.. Mind you this was new in the summer of 2020 and has roughly 40 hours on it. I don't cuss but the thing is a POS!
Im sorry but i have to say that this will leak most def around the drainage. Please don't follow this guide they obviously dont know much but trying tho.
Lovely video. I started my prairie over a decade ago. It's approximately an acre. In the beginning, I didn't do enough research and basically just let part of my yard grow, then burning it each year and adding more and more native plant seeds. I wish I could go back, but it's actually not too bad considering the rough start. It is deeply satisfying to watch the progress and see so many native pollinators, especially since I keep non-native honeybees. My original intent was to support the natives since honeybee pressure would be thick. To my delight, I do see more native wildlife in the prairie than my own honeybees. My guess is the honeybees tend to forage large swaths of pollen and nectar rich crops. So I feel that I have created some sort of balance in a roundabout way. Best of luck on your homestead. I'm glad I found your channel.
I’m launching conservative efforts on my grandparents 30 acres of land, starting with a 3 acre field, continuing into wooded efforts, and ideally getting neighbors on board with the idea, and expanding into a very large nature reserve.
I get it. I've been doing this on my Costa Rica farm for 7 years, now. It's made a huge impact. But, there is significant rainfall there. Here in North Georgia and the southeast in general, severe drought is becoming the norm.
Humidity levels through the year is what determines growth, not rainfall. In brittle environments where humidity is low most of the year (desert), grazing animals are vastly more important to break down plant matter. Get animals back on the land!
I got the 4x8 trailer, one thing I can say is, the fender mounts slap against the trailer frame and make noise, so before you put the fenders on these trailers get some rubberized coating of some sort or some adhesive rubber pads, and spray the back of the fender mounts with the coating, or stick on some rubber pads then put the fenders on. Otherwise they rattle pretty bad, no matter how tight you get them.
Nature's way was trees. Man cleaned it so the pasture could be there. ( at least here in the NE. Man is the solution. Not the problem. Unless you're bill gates and BlackRock great advise though I will try it.
Would this be able to suck up leaves if it wasn’t attached to the lawnmower? I don’t have a ride on mower and have been thinking of building one like this and attaching to my trailer to suck up piles of leaves.
Just curious even though this video is 2 years old. Harbor freight has a similar model for $399 too. Is this pretty much the same chassis in a different brand or an improved model? Northern tool charges $200 just to ship this to CA and my harbor freight is just down the street. I've seen folk change the wheels and tires to a more highway compatible one.
Making things so difficult ! Been farming....pasturing cattle for 45 years.....milk cows. Mother nature will paint the world green !!!!!! Heavy equipment ....cattle are heavy too ! Cut and bale hay from your pasture yearly ! You can buy a full line of basic hay equipment for around 15000 dollars. Most people own a vehicle that costs more then that ! Fertilize with a 60 -80-80 fertilizer and you will be amazed at the quality and amount of grass ! Forget this so called regenerative thingy ! Feed the cattle !
I’m working on my protect today, and hoping you’ll see this question. Why is the pipe itself wrapped in pond liner? Would that not prevent water from draining into the pipe?
That material used to surround the pipe is a semi-permeable membrane called geotextile fabric. It lets water through but prevents debris from entering. Good luck!
Hopefully you left some goldenrod somewhere else on your property, it is a very beneficial native for pollinators. Sounds like you're interested in native grass though, that's cool! And looks like you have a vid on making a prairie so you guys prob know what's up
